About The Position

Under general supervision, this role is responsible for running payroll cycles, balancing and reconciling payroll amounts, and verifying payroll data. The position also assists in balancing and reconciling payroll-related general ledger accounts, prepares journal entries, and compiles periodic and special reports for internal and external sources. Key responsibilities include processing client taxes, system setup and maintenance for earnings and deduction codes, and ensuring system synchronization. The role requires continuous education in payroll systems and managing the garnishment process. It also involves resolving payroll audit and wage/tax report differences, assisting with month-end and year-end balancing, and cross-training on all payroll functions to provide backup support.

Requirements

  • University Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Generally five years directly related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately balance payroll items.
  • Working knowledge of payroll practices and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Payroll/HRIS systems including report writing.
  • Working knowledge of accounting practices.
  • Expert knowledge of federal, state and local tax codes.

Responsibilities

  • Input data into the payroll system as needed and verify accuracy through balancing and comparison.
  • Run payroll cycles according to the payroll schedule and resolve out-of-balance conditions.
  • Assist Payroll Manager in reconciling the General Ledger and preparing Journal Entries.
  • Assist in testing functionality during upgrades and in year-end and year-begin processes.
  • Prepare SOPs for all payroll processing functions.
  • Perform testing, setup, and maintenance on earning codes, deduction codes, and imports.
  • Process garnishments with the payroll provider and communicate with employees as needed.
  • Perform tax registrations as needed.
  • Continue education of the payroll system through On-Demand webinars and participate in XOXO.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct, and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
