About The Position

We are presently seeking a Senior Operations Manager that will be responsible for production oversight, quality control, process optimization, team management, cross-department collaboration, and safety and compliance. Our facility in Boulder, Colorado has key functions in Research and Development, Operations, Production, and other disciplines. This facility specializes in the manufacturing of ultra-precision optical components, optical thin film coatings and optical sub-assemblies for demanding applications in lasers, materials processing, instrumentation, life sciences, avionics, and defense. This site offers capabilities that include substantial design and engineering resources, comprehensive optical fabrication and coating capabilities, advanced assembly technology and an extensive in-house metrology lab.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in manufacturing, particularly in precision optics or related industries such as semiconductors, lasers, or aerospace.
  • Proven track record of managing manufacturing operations, with a focus on high-precision products.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Familiarity with CAD software and manufacturing automation tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of optical fabrication processes, coating techniques, metrology, and testing.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree could be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily manufacturing operations to ensure the products are produced according to company standards and timelines
  • Oversee the implementation of production schedules, ensuring efficient use of resources and meeting customer delivery expectations
  • Ensure that all products meet the required quality standards and specifications
  • Work closely with the quality control team to implement inspection protocols, identify detects, and initiate corrective actions
  • Analyze production processes and implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and increase product quality
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to optimize workflows and minimize waste
  • Lead and develop a team of manufacturing engineers, technicians, and operators
  • Provide training, mentoring, and performance evaluations to ensure team members are meeting high standards
  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of precision manufacturing equipment used in optics production
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and advancements in optics
  • Work closely with R&D, engineering, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth transition from design to production
  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to align manufacturing capabilities with customer demands and market trends
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards, particularly related to the handling of materials and equipment used in optics manufacturing
  • Promote a culture of safety and implement best practices to avoid accidents and injuries
