Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer

The Walt Disney Company•Bristol, CT
•$129,300 - $181,600

About The Position

The Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer supports small to medium construction and infrastructure projects, serving as the point of contact for the Real Estate Design & Delivery organization. The role develops cost estimates and complete physical-layer network designs, including equipment, materials, labor, and project expense management. It produces design documents, bills of materials, telecom room layouts, rack elevations, optical riser drawings, labeling schemes, construction documents, cutover plans, and related implementation materials. The position designs and plans horizontal cabling, optical and campus backbones, pathways, telecom rooms, and supporting components. It coordinates cabling installations, maintains CAD and Layer 1 documentation, and partners with network engineers on equipment selection, access-layer capacity, wireless access point plans, switch requirements, and UPS specifications. It also commissions access-layer infrastructure and validates connectivity, VLANs, and port configurations. The engineer assesses existing infrastructure, recommends remediation, collaborates with architects and contractors, supports competitive bidding and construction administration, and coordinates schedules, forecasts, carrier builds, and project closeout. Additional work includes business-unit cabling requests, infrastructure projects at designated technology rooms, vendor and technology research, and contributions to standards and design practices. The role represents the department in business discussions and requires strong technical, business, and communication skills.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of direct experience in building construction, electrical, and network infrastructure design and implementation, including physical-layer cabling systems and network engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of EIA/TIA standards and building codes.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple small to medium projects of varying complexity and complete them successfully and on time.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills, including the ability to explain technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences and communicate business issues to staff, peers, managers, and outside parties.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of network access-layer fundamentals, including Ethernet switching, VLAN segmentation, switch-port configuration, and basic Layer 2/3 principles as they apply to infrastructure planning and deployment.
  • Familiarity with enterprise wireless networking concepts, including access point placement, RF planning fundamentals, and collaboration on wireless infrastructure deployments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Optical network design and planning experience.
  • BICSI RCDD certification or Professional Engineer qualification.
  • PMP certification.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Regional Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) experience.
  • Automation training.
  • TOGAF training.
  • Six Sigma Lean certification.
  • CompTIA Network+ certification.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
  • Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) certification or entry-level Cisco platform familiarity.
  • Juniper Networks Certified Associate (JNCIA-Junos) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the point of contact for the Real Estate Design & Delivery organization on small to medium construction projects.
  • Develop rough-order-of-magnitude costs for turnkey network infrastructure design and delivery, determine equipment, materials, and labor costs, and manage project expenses against estimates.
  • Develop office-building physical-layer design documents and bills of materials, including telecom room layouts, rack elevations, optical riser drawings, labeling schemes, Division 27 documents, cutover plans, and runlists.
  • Conduct site audits and assessments to produce design documents and plans.
  • Design horizontal cabling, optical riser and campus backbones, pathways, cable trays, conduits, pull boxes, outlets, workstation feeds, and floor termination devices.
  • Design and plan telecom rooms, including layouts, power, HVAC, grounding, racks, runways, HCM, and VCM.
  • Manage new copper and fiber cable pulls and update CAD drawings, Patch Manager, and Layer 1 documentation.
  • Partner with network engineers on equipment selection and costs; determine switch-port requirements, specify UPS capacity, and coordinate wireless access point plans, pathways, and mounting hardware.
  • Plan access-layer switch counts, uplink capacity, and port density based on physical design requirements.
  • Review wireless deployments, validate access point placement, and address interference in relation to ceiling and pathway design.
  • Commission access-layer infrastructure, including switch staging, port assignments, VLAN configuration, and end-to-end connectivity verification before production cutover.
  • Assess existing physical plant and network infrastructure for capacity, performance, and end-of-life risks, and present findings and remediation recommendations to engineering leadership.
  • Coordinate with architects to ensure construction documents accurately represent the physical-layer design; review floor plans and provide markups for contractor scopes.
  • Work with Strategic Sourcing to solicit and evaluate competitive implementation bids, including identifying bidders, setting milestones, presenting designs, responding to RFIs, and participating in interviews and contractor selection.
  • Provide construction administration, including site walks, onsite reviews, OAC meetings, submittal reviews, RFI responses, contractor coordination, and recommendations when field conditions require design changes.
  • Coordinate service provider and carrier builds into new and existing facilities.
  • Provide schedule milestones to general contractors, track timelines and financial forecasts, and ensure operational transition and closeout documentation, as-built plans, and test reports are completed.
  • Evaluate and execute business-unit requests for cabling moves, adds, and changes and small infrastructure projects.
  • Engineer and maintain network infrastructure at the 7 Hudson and Bristol, Connecticut Technology Rooms, including equipment installations, connectivity, rack locations, carrier circuits, cabling, power, and carrier builds.
  • Execute NFAD infrastructure projects, including telecom room remodels, campus fiber capacity additions, and horizontal cable and optical backbone upgrades.
  • Research technologies and products, meet with vendors, address technical issues, and influence products and services to meet evolving requirements.
  • Contribute to the NFAD group by researching and recommending technologies and developing design formats, scopes of work, strategies, and standards.
  • Represent the department in business discussions with technical and business acumen, strong communication skills, and professional maturity.
  • Validate network infrastructure integrity in facility environments, including switch connectivity, VLAN assignments, and port configurations, and engage network engineers for complex fault resolution.
