About The Position

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to join our Canadian Mine Sector team to support our client’s technical mineworks need in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Ontario as well as Canada’s three territories.  Direct mining sector project experience, with 15 to 20 years’ experience required.  This is a client facing, technical role. This opportunity requires a dynamic individual with proven and direct mine tailing and waste rock management experience as an engineer of record, earth and dam inspection and engineering, client development skills, looking for growth in new technologies and environmental consulting.  In this role, you will assist Project Managers (PMs) with tailings engineering, environmental investigation, remediation, and permitting projects. You will oversee the day-to-day activities of junior-level staff; schedule and coordinate task resources and solicit guidance from senior-level technical staff and PMs. The individual selected for this role will be expected to work as the Engineer of Record for any mine infrastructure designed or managed on behalf of our mine clients.

Requirements

  • MSc Degree in civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering with direct experience related to mine tailings (earth and/or concrete dams), or related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 15 to 20 years of experience
  • P.Eng, is required for the Province/Territory of practice.
  • Ability to effectively communicate through excellent technical writing skills and presentation of technical work to senior scientists, management, and external peers and clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Served as a technical resource on pursuits and projects.
  • Served as an Engineer of Record for at least ten mine sites or ten years of cumulative experience at multiple mine sites.
  • Arctic Experience would be a plus.
  • Experience working in permafrost regions in the Northern Canada.

Responsibilities

  • plan and implement mine tailings and waste rock investigations and management solutions
  • prepare technical reports and work plans
  • communicating with clients and regulatory agencies
  • perform technical evaluations of mine infrastructure studies primarily related to tailings containment and waste rock management facilities as well as water containment structures (i.e. dams, dykes and diversion structures)
  • Coordinate and provide technical direction to geotechnical laboratories for routine and specialized testing methods’
  • Develop mine tailing and treatment facilities concepts, models and treatment designs
  • Coordinate and oversee annual inspections at mine sites primarily focused on geotechnical assessments consistent with the requirements outlined in the Canadian Dam Association guidance
  • Work with clients to manage their operating permits, as required, ensuring compliance with engineering requirements focused primarily on tailings and waste rock containment structure but also water management structures
