About The Position

This role is for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Mining based in Phoenix, AZ, focusing on the application of critical thinking to the management of mine waste and water. The position is part of the Mining Environmental Group and offers a hybrid work schedule. The engineer will support and lead tailings storage facility projects through all phases (design, construction, operation, closure) for global mining projects. Responsibilities include contributing to risk assessments, dam safety assessments, and risk-informed decision-making, engaging with clients and suppliers on field programs and design solutions, working with industry software, leading less experienced staff, building client rapport, and expanding knowledge through conferences and training. The role also offers the opportunity to be an ambassador for and potentially an owner of KCB.

Requirements

  • A degree in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering, with a track record of continued development
  • At least 10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, applied to mining projects.
  • Eligible to register as professional engineer in the US.
  • Experience in slope stability and seepage analysis; dam design; earthworks and construction; site investigation and laboratory testing of soils and rock.
  • An ability to build relationships with multidisciplinary project-based teams
  • Experience in a safety focused environment with near miss and incident reporting requirements

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead tailings storage facility projects in the design, construction, operation and closure phases for global mining projects.

  • Work with the latest versions of industry software
  • Lead less experienced staff through the methodologies of TSF design solutions
  • Build client rapport that develops projects from feasibility through to mine closure phases

  • Be an ambassador for and potentially become an owner of KCB
