We are looking for a Senior Engineer Geotechnical to provide geotechnical support to the mining operation through proactive management of geotechnical risks, hazard identification, and effective communication. Requirements

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • A recognized tertiary qualification in Geological, Geotechnical, Mining, or Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geology, or an equivalent field
  • Eligibility for professional designation (P.Eng. or P.Geo.) with Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL)
  • A minimum of 5–7 years of experience in a geotechnical role, with preference given to candidates with operational experience in an open‑pit mining environment
  • Experience with slope monitoring equipment, including prisms, radar, and in‑ground instrumentation
  • Exposure to software programs such as Vulcan, Leapfrog, PointStudio, GeoExplorer, and Rocscience packages (Slide, Dips, RocFall, Swedge, and RocPlane)
  • A valid driver’s licence

Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicating with operational teams and site technical services to manage geotechnical risks
  • Training staff on hazard identification and on controls available to manage geotechnical risk
  • Providing geotechnical input into mine designs and planning processes
  • Interpreting slope monitoring and dump performance through inspections and data collected from various monitoring systems
  • Assisting with the deployment and installation of monitoring systems across the operation
  • Ensuring geotechnical instrumentation is properly maintained and operational
  • Conducting geotechnical drill core logging and field mapping of pit exposures
  • Assisting with pit slope and waste dump design
  • Completing and communicating pit‑wall design conformance
  • Managing geotechnical projects undertaken on site to support design implementation
