About The Position

This role is within the Mining Environmental Group, based in either the Toronto or Sudbury office. The position offers a hybrid work-from-home and in-office schedule. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will focus on the application of critical thinking to the management of mine waste and water, working on a large dam project portfolio and designing solutions for challenging conditions. The role involves client engagement, project management, and mentorship.

Requirements

  • A degree in civil engineering or geological engineering, with a track track record of continued development.
  • 10 - 15 years of civil design experience with five years related to mine waste management projects.
  • Background in geotechnical design, with a focus on dams, embankments, and slopes.
  • Experience in slope stability and seepage analysis, dam design, earthworks, and construction.
  • An ability to build relationships with multidisciplinary project-based teams.
  • Experience in a safety focused environment with near miss and incident reporting requirements.
  • Eligible to register as a professional engineer in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Work on large dam project portfolio, designing solutions for challenging conditions.
  • Engage with clients, colleagues and suppliers on environmentally focused field programs and design solutions.
  • Manage and lead projects including the development, review and approvals of technical specifications, drawings and design reports and tender packages for major tailing dams, mine waste facilities, containment facilities and mine infrastructure projects.
  • Provide mentorship to staff through the methodologies of TSF designs.
  • Build client rapport that develops projects from feasibility through to mine closure phases.
  • Expand knowledge by attending conferences and trainings.
  • Contribute to industry knowledge and state of practice.
  • Be an ambassador for and potentially become an owner of KCB.
