The mechanical engineering team designs, integrates, verifies, and supports complex capital equipment systems combining mechanical, electrical, and software technologies. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will serve as a key technical contributor in developing a next-generation X-ray imaging system. The role leads mechanical engineering projects and technical workstreams across concept development, detailed design, system integration, verification, and product implementation. It calls for strong technical judgment, ownership, and collaboration with engineering, quality, manufacturing, suppliers, subcontractors, and other partners to deliver robust mechanical solutions. The position is based in Boxborough, Massachusetts, with an onsite presence required four days per week for hands-on design, prototyping, testing, and cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 or more years of engineering experience, or a master's degree and 2 or more years of engineering experience, or a Ph.D. with 0 or more years of experience.
  • Experience in mechanical product development, with ownership of engineering projects or major technical workstreams.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software and engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • For baccalaureate degrees earned outside the United States, a degree satisfying the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing mechanical and electromechanical systems, including design analysis, verification, and complex problem resolution.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers, subcontractors, and cross-functional stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Experience developing complex electromechanical or motion-control systems for capital equipment.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM), Agile Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), or similar engineering data-management systems.
  • Experience with verification planning, test fixture development, product transfer, and manufacturing readiness activities.
  • Experience in regulated product development environments, including medical devices or X-ray imaging systems.
  • Experience supporting system integration for complex multidisciplinary products.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering projects and technical workstreams from requirements definition through design, verification, and implementation.
  • Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical components, assemblies, mechanisms, fixtures, and test equipment.
  • Create, review, and release 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and product-development documentation.
  • Investigate mechanical, integration, manufacturing, and product-performance issues; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Define verification strategies, write engineering test protocols, develop test fixtures, and evaluate test results.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams to evaluate technical solutions and resolve engineering challenges.
  • Support system integration, design reviews, engineering changes, configuration management, and design transfer.
  • Drive technical decisions using engineering analysis, risk assessment, and sound design principles.
