About The Position

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Trade Management and Treasury Operations, the Senior Manager, Trade Management & Operations is responsible for the daily operational management of trade settlement workflows within Investment Operations. The role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant matching and settlement of securities trades (Fixed Income, Equities, Repos, Money Markets, Securities Lending). This role provides end-to-end post-trade operational support across multiple asset classes, ensuring the accurate, timely, and risk-controlled settlement of trades from execution through to final settlement. This position leads a team with varying levels of seniority, manages performance and development plans, drives process improvements, and ensures adherence to audit and control requirements. The Associate Director / Senior Manager plays a critical role in issue resolution, process enhancement, and strategic initiative delivery, balancing high-pressure settlement deadlines with the need to maintain strong stakeholder relationships and a culture of teamwork and accountability.

Requirements

  • University degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline (required).
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in the financial sector, preferably in capital markets or trade settlement operations.
  • Strong operational knowledge of public market instruments and settlement lifecycles.
  • Experience in managing high-pressure, time-sensitive operational environments.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing operational teams.
  • Skilled in fostering engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of trade settlement processes across equities, fixed income, and other public market instruments.
  • Understanding of trade capture, matching, confirmation, settlement, corporate actions, securities lending, collateral management, valuations, accounting, and risk controls.
  • Ability to assess and resolve complex settlement issues quickly and effectively.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and control integrity.
  • Skilled in designing efficient, compliant, and scalable settlement workflows.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate across multiple functions.
  • Cross functional stakeholder management (Front Office, Operational Risk, Controls, Audit).
  • Experience in Relationship Management and partnership development including management of custody relationships through strong SLA’s and Metrics monitoring.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities for technical and strategic discussions.
  • Familiarity with operational risk frameworks and industry best practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion or enrolment in a professional designation program (e.g., CFA, CSC) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Simcorp Dimension, TLM SmartStream, IntelliMatch, Bloomberg, SWIFT are an asset.
  • Ability to leverage technology to improve efficiency and mitigate risk.
  • Awareness of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and robotic process automation (RPA), and the ability to assess their applicability to settlement operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full end-to-end trade settlement workflow for equities, fixed income, and other public market instruments.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for settlement failures, breaks, and operational issues, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Review and monitor daily position reconciliations with the custodian, and other counterparties following up on outstanding breaks with the team.
  • Provide oversight evidence through control checklists, sign-offs, and end-of-day reporting.
  • Monitor settlement benchmarks and match rates, driving improvements to reduce fail rates.
  • Lead and manage a mid-size team with varying levels of experience.
  • Establish and monitor performance objectives and development plans.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide continuous feedback.
  • Manage staffing schedules, vacation coverage, and job rotations.
  • Coach, mentor, and motivate team members to foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Identify and implement operational improvements leveraging new or existing technology to enhance settlement efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Review and update desktop procedures and training materials to reflect current workflows.
  • Lead or participate in projects and initiatives impacting trade settlement operations (e.g. metrics and KPI, system upgrades).
  • Explore and evaluate the use of artificial intelligence and automation tools to enhance settlement workflows, improve exception handling, and reduce manual intervention across the trade lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with internal control frameworks, regulatory settlement requirements, and audit standards.
  • Support interim and year-end audit efforts with complete documentation and process transparency.
  • Monitor adherence to settlement deadlines and industry best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Investment Management, Legal, IT, custodians, brokers, and external counterparties.
  • Collaborate with other Associate Directors to share best practices and provide operational support.
  • Participate in enterprise-wide initiatives and represent the team in relevant forums.
  • Act as a back-up to the Sr. Director, when necessary.
