Senior Manager, Software Engineering - Slack Core Mobile

Slack•Atlanta, GA
•$172,500 - $260,100

About The Position

Salesforce is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Noise & Intelligence pod within Slack’s Core Mobile team in the SlackXP pillar. The team builds mobile experiences that help people distinguish important information from noise, understand what needs attention, and take action effectively. The manager will lead a globally distributed, multidisciplinary team of iOS and Android engineers, owning a problem space rather than simply managing a backlog. The role calls for a collaborative leader who can help create a best-in-class mobile experience and turn product goals into useful, tangible outcomes for users. The manager will guide the direction and sequencing of work across the pod, build a high-trust team culture, and partner with product managers and designers on plans, dependencies, timelines, and risks. They will define and uphold execution and quality standards across both mobile platforms, make data-driven investment decisions, and ensure security, accessibility, and performance are integral to the team’s work. The role also includes hiring, representing the team in prioritization discussions, supporting engineers’ growth and impact, and communicating progress and issues openly to leadership.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience leading engineering teams building high-performance web or mobile applications.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and previous experience as a Senior-or-higher-level iOS or Android engineer.
  • Sufficient technical depth to contribute credibly to architecture discussions and develop subject-matter expertise quickly in new areas.
  • Experience managing engineers across substantial time-zone differences with an asynchronous operating rhythm that does not depend on overlapping work hours.
  • Understanding of how and where AI software development tools can be deployed to maximize team impact.
  • Ability to use technical experience to make decisions while balancing stability, performance, velocity, and user experience when the right answer is unclear.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing high-performing mobile teams, currently or in the past.

Responsibilities

  • Guide the pod’s problem space by deciding what to invest in, sequence for later, or decline.
  • Build and maintain a high-trust team culture that enables impactful work and technical growth.
  • Partner with product managers and designers on planning, dependencies, timelines, and risks, and help resolve problems efficiently.
  • Set a high execution bar and define quality measures across iOS and Android.
  • Drive data-informed investment decisions and incorporate security, accessibility, and performance into the team’s work.
  • Hire effectively and represent the team’s work in prioritization discussions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of engineers’ work and help them grow their impact.
  • Communicate openly with leadership about the team’s status and emerging issues.
