Senior Manager, Public Relations
About The Position
The Senior Manager, Public Relations develops and executes strategic communications initiatives that enhance and protect the organization’s reputation. The role leads media relations, external communications, thought leadership, crisis communications support, and public relations campaigns aligned with business priorities. It reports to the VP, Public Relations and partners closely with senior leadership, marketing, legal, HR, and business teams to ensure consistent, compelling, and effective messaging across external audiences. This is a hybrid role based in Towson, Maryland. The position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in public relations, corporate communications, media relations, or external communications.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic PR campaigns.
- Strong media relations background with a track record of securing earned media coverage.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience supporting executive communications and high-visibility announcements.
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience handling sensitive or reputation-related issues with sound judgment and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive public relations strategies that support corporate and business objectives.
- Lead proactive media relations, including press outreach, journalist relationship building, and management of media inquiries.
- Draft and review press releases, media statements, executive talking points, Q&A documents, briefing materials, and other external communications.
- Identify opportunities to elevate brand reputation through earned media, speaking engagements, awards, and thought leadership initiatives.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to align messaging across corporate communications, marketing, investor relations, HR, and executive leadership.
- Support crisis communications planning and response, including issue monitoring, message development, and rapid-response coordination.
- Track, analyze, and report on PR campaign performance, media coverage, share of voice, and reputation metrics.
- Manage external PR agencies, vendors, and communication partners to ensure high-quality execution and measurable results.
- Provide communications counsel to senior leaders and serve as a trusted advisor on reputation-sensitive matters.
- Ensure external communications are accurate, on-brand, timely, and aligned with company policies and legal requirements.
