About The Position

This position is responsible for tire engineering service to support both consumer and commercial products during their life cycle in YTC markets. Primary responsibilities focus on customer satisfaction via product excellence, effective problem solving and prevention, industry and regulatory insight and collaboration, teamwork with YTC/YRC operating and manufacturing departments, technical education of YTC staff, design of required technical equipment and information systems, design of technical policy/standards/procedures, establishment of engineering business strategy/staffing/budgets, representation of technical engineering in customer/regulatory/legal activities etc. These responsibilities are carried out through direct leadership and coaching of technical engineers and technicians and effective leadership and team work with other YTC/YRC department management teams.

Requirements

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong technical, analytic and problem solving skills
  • Familiar with the use of engineering software tools such as 3D CAD programs, Matlab, SAS/JMP, and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to control complex engineering projects on a national scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand customer needs and resolve any problems encountered
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 15 Years of Experience in tire engineering or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with product planning and marketing activities
  • Attend and actively participate in commercial MPS committee and product committee meetings.
  • Manage market testing to quantify new product requirements and performance attainment.
  • Provide "in market" technical expertise for YRC development groups.
  • Actively build relationships with necessary YRC Development staff.
  • Coordinate survey trips to improve YRC staff understanding of market conditions.
  • Enthusiastically advocate for greater technical knowledge in field sales force.
  • Work cross-departmentally to create useful training material for YTC staff (including technical staff as needed).
  • Implement modular training program on key topics to dispense consistent technical information to field sales.
  • Determine proper balance of self-training vs. guided learning.
  • Broadly implement web-based training to increase availability and reduce training costs.
  • Identify technology gaps between YTC and key competitors. Propose and implement plans to reduce/eliminate gaps.
  • Supervise development of tools & systems (TTDB, Fuel Calculations, etc...) to support sales force on technical issues
  • Represent YTC on RMA technical committees, TMC, TRA, ASTM, SAE as needed. Represent YTC to EPA, NHTSA and other governmental bodies as required.
  • Complete other tasks as required.
