The Senior Machinist is a highly skilled tradesperson responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC and/or manual machining equipment to produce precision parts. In addition to consistently completing assigned tasks, this role contributes strongly to team success by serving as a go-to technical resource, providing guidance, and supporting cross-functional collaboration. The Senior Machinist proactively seeks feedback, communicates effectively with leadership, and helps elevate overall shop performance.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of machining experience
  • Advanced CNC machining knowledge
  • Strong understanding of GD&T
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools
  • Ability to read complex blueprints
  • Experience with common CNC controls
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Journeyman Machinist certification or technical degree
  • CAM programming experience
  • Experience serving as a technical lead
  • Experience machining tight-tolerance components

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC and/or manual machines (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.)
  • Complete assigned machining tasks efficiently while actively contributing to team objectives
  • Interpret blueprints, GD&T, customer specifications, and work instructions
  • Select tooling, fixtures, and machining strategies to optimize quality and cycle time
  • Perform first-article inspections and in-process checks using precision measuring tools
  • Serve as a go-to technical resource with competency in specific machining subjects
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to other machinists
  • Build and maintain cross-functional relationships with engineering, quality, and maintenance
  • Proactively seek and provide feedback to improve individual and team performance
  • Articulate machining issues and risks at a high level to managers and engineers
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and quality issues
  • Lead by example in safety, quality, and shop standards
