Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Simulation
About The Position
Waymo is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for its Driver Understanding and Evaluation team, which develops ways to understand and assess Waymo Driver behavior in both real-world driving and simulation. The Learned Metrics team uses machine learning to scale behavior assessment, collaborates across teams to bring ML into production systems, and builds Waymo’s reward function. It builds and operates large-scale machine learning and data systems, simulation workflows, and insight tools, combining expert human judgments with advanced ML models to deliver training and evaluation data for the Waymo Driver. The engineer will develop machine learning models to assess autonomous vehicle behavior and build infrastructure to support performant models. The role reports to the TLM for the Learned Metrics Team and involves collaborating across teams to bring state-of-the-art methods into production. The position is full-time, with an expected US base salary range of $204,000–$259,000. Actual starting pay depends on job-related factors and location. Employees may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, equity incentives, and company benefits, subject to eligibility requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Statistics, Physics, Math, or another quantitative area, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 2 years of experience building productionized machine learning models.
- Comfort building production systems using Python and/or C++.
- Background in applied deep learning.
- A track record of improving model quality.
Nice To Haves
- At least 4 years of experience building productionized machine learning models.
- Experience in reinforcement learning, transfer learning, or learning.
- Experience with large-scale data and models.
