About The Position

The Senior Machine Learning Engineer designs, builds, ships, and operates production applications whose core behavior is model-driven. The role develops the algorithms and pipelines behind ServiceNow optimization products, turning scheduling and resource-allocation problems into fast, reliable customer outcomes. It combines advanced algorithm development with directing AI coding agents: translating requirements into precise specifications, guiding agent implementation, and verifying correctness. The role owns the correctness, performance, and robustness of shipped work, regardless of whether it was written by a person or an agent. The position includes building and operating optimization applications at scale, developing automated model evaluation and testing systems, shaping how AI agents are used in engineering, and ensuring quality, safety, and reliability in production. It also involves customer-facing delivery when appropriate, translating business needs into solutions, and using customer learnings to inform the product roadmap. The engineer collaborates with product managers, designers, conversation designers, and other engineers to define success criteria, align on tradeoffs, and communicate capabilities and risks.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong command of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, system design, concurrency, parallelism, APIs, data modeling, and testing.
  • Experience developing reliable and resilient mission-critical systems.
  • Strong critical thinking and a track record of integrating AI into engineering processes, software development life cycles, workflows, or decision-making.
  • Comfort working directly with customers amid incomplete information and fixed timelines; sound judgment about when to implement a fast local solution versus a durable one; and ability to communicate capabilities, limitations, and risks to non-engineers.
  • Python experience is strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree or certifications, especially in Operations Research.
  • Experience with Java, JavaScript, Kubernetes, or GraphQL.
  • Experience with Python, MLflow, Weights & Biases, LoRA, PEFT, SageMaker, Vertex AI, AzureML, Kubeflow, Airflow, Prefect, TorchServe, Triton, vLLM, SHAP, LIME, pandas, Spark, or SQL.
  • Familiarity with Operations Research, Vehicle Routing Problems, Mathematical Optimization, or Field Service Management.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate production optimization applications at scale, including API design, data ingestion, multiprocessing, observability, algorithm development, performance benchmarking, and automated testing.
  • Build automated evaluation systems and test model behavior to support development and confident feature delivery.
  • Translate requirements into precise, testable specifications with explicit scope, constraints, and acceptance criteria; break work into agent-sized tasks; and review AI coding-agent output for correctness and maintainability.
  • Contribute to the team’s AI harness and help shape how AI agents are used.
  • Own production quality, safety, and reliability; manage deployments, monitor service availability, implement alerting, and respond to customer issues.
  • Work directly with customers when needed to understand business requirements, accelerate time to value, and apply learnings to the product roadmap.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, conversation designers, and engineers to define success criteria, align on tradeoffs, and communicate capabilities and risks.
