About The Position

We are a leading game development studio composed of veterans of the game industry. We are working on a game based on an acclaimed intellectual property set in an enthralling medieval fantasy world. This game is a AAA third-person action-adventure RPG experience, with a rich narrative and strategic gameplay. As a Senior Level Designer, you will own the design and delivery of gameplay spaces and activities within our open world for a third-person fantasy action game. You’ll be responsible for turning gameplay mechanics into engaging, readable, and enjoyable player experiences, with a strong focus on quality, clarity, and iteration. Working in Unreal Engine 5, you will help align cross-disciplinary teams to iterate on locations and activities that support exploration, and large-scale battles, delivering both systemic gameplay and memorable scripted moments.

Requirements

  • Extensive professional experience as a Level Designer, with shipped games or equivalent production experience.
  • Strong mastery of level design fundamentals, including layout, flow, pacing, readability, and player guidance.
  • Strong ability to design gameplay activities that support exploration and combat, translating gameplay mechanics into engaging and evolving situations.
  • Ability to contribute to and evolve design guidelines, metrics, objectives, and constraints.
  • Hands-on experience with Unreal Engine (preferably Unreal Engine 5).
  • Comfortable prototyping and validating gameplay ideas independently, using unreal blueprints
  • Ability to drive iteration cycles and make informed design decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability influence and align cross-disciplinary stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in both French & English, (written and spoken).
  • Comfortable working in an international, distributed team across different cultures and time zones.
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong level design work and clear design intent (playable content preferred).
  • Strong understanding of open-world design, systemic gameplay, and player-driven experiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., Unreal Blueprints) to prototype and implement dynamic gameplay events and cinematic moments are a strong asset.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software for blockout or iteration is a plus.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting other designers is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own the development of levels, features, or activity types from concept to final implementation, ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Define and structure engaging activities that support exploration and combat, using gameplay mechanics to drive fun, challenge, and variety.
  • Contribute to the definition and evolution of design guidelines, including metrics, objectives, scripting, and rewards.
  • Ensure levels are readable and intuitive, guiding player movement and decision-making through layout, landmarks, and visual cues
  • Drive iteration across multiple locations or features using playtests, feedback, and evolving game systems to improve quality.
  • Act as a key point of contact between disciplines, helping align gameplay intent, constraints, and solutions.
  • Identify and proactively solve gameplay issues related to flow, pacing, difficulty, and clarity, anticipating risks and proposing solutions at both local (level) and systemic (game-wide) scales.
  • Create highly realized gameplay moments during large-scale army battles, using scripting tools (e.g., Unreal Blueprints) to orchestrate pacing, events, and player-facing spectacle.
  • Stay informed about level design trends and best practices, analyzing relevant games to gather insights and inspiration that improve your work.
  • Mentor and support other Level Designers through feedback, reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to planning, scoping, and prioritization of level design work.
