About The Position

Equs is hiring its first dedicated integration engineer to bring the EQUS Developer Toolkit to customers including banks and other regulated institutions, employers, education providers, public bodies, and digital platforms. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role serving as the technical lead for customers from initial architecture discussions through production launch. The engineer will design integrations, connect identity and back-end systems, guide customers through security reviews, and feed lessons back into the product and documentation. The role may also involve work on other EQUS products over time. The position covers customer solution design and technical onboarding; identity, back-end, and front-end integration; EU Digital Identity Wallet readiness; security and procurement support; and technical assistance in business development. The engineer will also create reusable integration resources to make future customer implementations faster. Equs describes itself as building privacy-first AI, identity, and trust infrastructure, with a focus on giving people control over their digital identity and data.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in a customer-facing technical role such as solutions engineer, integration engineer, or technical consultant for an API or identity product.
  • Personally taken enterprise customers from pilot to production, including security reviews and vendor due diligence.
  • Experience with REST APIs and at least one back-end language: TypeScript/Node, Java/Kotlin, or Python.
  • Working understanding of X.509 certificates, trust anchors, and key management.
  • Fluency in OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect, including troubleshooting rejected tokens.
  • Ability to read OpenAPI specifications and write back-end code sufficient to build sample integrations.
  • Clear writing skills for integration designs, security responses, and public documentation.
  • Ability to work comfortably with ambiguity and design around a developing product roadmap.
  • Self-directed remote work habits, including managing time and keeping multiple customer integrations moving.
  • Role is US-based only; no H-1B visa support.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with verifiable credentials and digital identity standards, including OID4VCI, OID4VP, SD-JWT VC, or ISO 18013-5 mdoc.
  • Experience with eIDAS 2.0 and the EU Digital Identity Wallet ecosystem.
  • Experience with enterprise identity providers such as Microsoft Entra, Okta, or Ping.
  • Experience with payments, open banking, or agentic-payment protocols such as AP2.
  • Experience serving regulated or security-conscious sectors such as banking, insurance, government, healthcare, or education.

Responsibilities

  • Design customer solutions for use cases such as KYC status, employee or student IDs, qualifications, age checks, membership, and AI-agent payment mandates, including issuance and presentation flows, wallet models, and implementation methods.
  • Lead technical onboarding, provision sandbox and production tenants, issue client credentials, configure Issuers, Verifiers, and credential schemas, and enable and track requested features.
  • Connect customer identity systems and guide IAM teams through Bring Your Own IdP using OpenID Connect, Authorization Server registration, and OAuth client-credentials setup.
  • Get back-end integrations live by specifying and reviewing Attribute Provider endpoints and helping customer engineers debug requests using request IDs, error codes, and rate-limit headers.
  • Support front-end teams embedding Equs UI under security and allowed-origin policies, applying branding, and enabling the browser Digital Credentials API on supported devices.
  • Lead EU Digital Identity Wallet readiness, including moving Verifiers to X.509, obtaining registration certificates from national Registrars, and configuring trusted roots.
  • Own the technical aspects of security and procurement, answer due-diligence questionnaires, and participate in security reviews using data-handling, encryption, DPA, and TOMs documentation.
  • Support business development in technical sales conversations by explaining integration requirements to prospective customers.
  • Represent customer needs to product, log and prioritize deal-blocking gaps, and work with engineering and partners on fixes.
  • Create quickstarts, help-center articles, sample code, and a reusable customer integration pack with sector variants, a flow decision tree, security answers, and a go-live checklist.
  • Potentially work on other EQUS products over time.
