About The Position

DrFirst is seeking a Senior Integration Engineer for its Professional Services integration engineering team. The role builds and supports integrations with payers, hospitals, health systems, and EMR/EHR platforms. It involves designing ways for healthcare organizations to connect with DrFirst’s medication management solutions and streamlining implementation experiences for customers and internal teams. A core focus is supporting the electronic prior authorization (ePA) platform through direct payer integrations. The engineer scales payer connectivity and ePA workflows, owns technical execution and business relationships with payer partners, works with Product to make complex payer workflows reliable and repeatable, and develops processes and standard operating procedures as payer connectivity grows. The role also builds self-service tools and automation for integration development, testing, and certification while maintaining enterprise-grade security and compliance. The work influences customer go-live timelines and the reliability of services used by healthcare professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in healthcare integration engineering.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare data standards, including HL7 v2, HL7 FHIR, and X12 EDI, and interoperability challenges.
  • Hands-on experience building production integrations with payers, hospitals, health systems, and/or EMR/EHR platforms.
  • Working knowledge of payer system architectures and electronic prior authorization standards and workflows, such as NCPDP SCRIPT ePA, X12 278, and HL7 FHIR Da Vinci PAS.
  • Experience with languages used in healthcare technology stacks, including Java, C#, Python, and JavaScript/Node.js, and with EMR/EHR-specific frameworks and integration patterns.
  • Experience building automated integration testing and scripting, with working familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and AWS cloud platforms.
  • Strong communication skills and experience leading technical discussions with customers, vendors, or payers and seeing integrations through to go-live.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with real-time data streaming, event-driven architectures, and microservices patterns in healthcare environments.
  • Exposure to infrastructure as code and deployment automation.
  • Habitual use of AI tools such as Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or Codex to accelerate development and improve code quality; strong prompt-engineering skills and experience building AI-assisted tooling or agentic workflows.
  • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability initiatives, including TEFCA, the CMS Interoperability Rule, and the 21st Century Cures Act.
  • Experience with Spring Boot or similar enterprise frameworks.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and Google Cloud Platform, or another container orchestrator and cloud platform.
  • Experience with Domain Driven Design (DDD) concepts in software architecture and development.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and support integrations with hospitals, health systems, and EMR/EHR vendors; translate requirements into reliable interfaces and troubleshoot issues across customer environments and internal platforms.
  • Design, build, and support direct payer integrations for the ePA platform, including payer-specific rules, request and response workflows, and exception handling.
  • Troubleshoot complex ePA issues and collaborate with internal teams to improve authorization success rates and turnaround times.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for payer partners, lead onboarding and ongoing integration reviews, and work with Product on scalable payer integration capabilities.
  • Document repeatable payer onboarding processes and build the processes and SOPs needed as payer connectivity grows.
  • Build automation, APIs, and self-service tools to accelerate integration development, testing, and certification for the team and tech-forward customers.
  • Build testing and monitoring into integrations to meet HIPAA and HITECH requirements and support reliable production operation.
  • Lead technical discussions with customers, vendors, and payers and guide integrations through go-live.

Benefits
