Senior Instructional Designer & Learning Consultant

UNITED PETROLEUM TRANSPORTS INCOklahoma City, OK
Onsite

About The Position

United Petroleum Transports (UPT) and Florida Rock & Tank Lines (FRTL) are building their Organizational Development function from the ground up and are seeking a senior instructional designer. This role is a senior-level, consultative instructional design position that requires the individual to own projects end-to-end, from initial consultation to evaluating results. The position involves proactively identifying business problems, recommending appropriate solutions (which may not always be training), and developing high-quality learning materials. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver who leads with curiosity and can consult effectively across all levels of the organization. This is not an order-taking or purely content-creation role; it requires independent thinking, strategic consultation, and a focus on performance outcomes.

Requirements

  • Three plus years of progressive instructional design experience end to end.
  • Demonstrated capability in performance consulting: getting to the real problem before proposing a solution.
  • Demonstrated capability in instructional design and adult learning theory applied in real projects.
  • Experience with a structured design methodology used to lead projects from analysis through evaluation.
  • Experience designing and developing multiple modalities: eLearning, video, instructor-led and facilitator materials, job aids, and performance support.
  • Experience with accessibility-aware design (ADA/WCAG) and visual design fundamentals.
  • Experience in consulting and facilitation with SMEs, leaders, and end users.
  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience managing projects with limited oversight.
  • Experience with modern authoring, multimedia, LMS, and AI-enabled tools (Articulate 360, Adobe Premiere, Screen Pal, Menti Meter, Paycom Learning, and JJ Keller are current tools, but ability to learn quickly is valued).
  • Ability to work 100% on-site in Oklahoma City, OK.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship is available.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, organizational development, or a related field (equivalent demonstrated experience considered).
  • Experience supporting transportation, safety, compliance, logistics, manufacturing, field operations, or another frontline or regulated workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Owning projects end to end across safety, compliance, operations, onboarding, leadership development, and enterprise initiatives.
  • Consulting across the organization to gather information from various stakeholders.
  • Identifying the real problem and recommending the right solution, including when training is not the answer.
  • Deciding what gets built, in what modality (eLearning, video, instructor-led, blended, job aids, facilitator materials, performance support, or practice), and justifying the choice.
  • Producing accurate, accessible, professional work and ensuring it is effectively implemented.
  • Proving whether the solution worked using business-recognized metrics and iterating for improvement.
  • Researching existing internal resources, best practices, and the application of AI in design.
  • Managing multiple projects, stakeholders, and timelines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Helping to build the standards, templates, and practices of a growing OD function.
  • Providing basic backup support for learning systems and facilitating New Employee Orientation as needed.
