About The Position

New Iron is hiring a senior infrastructure engineer in Austin, Texas, to own the environments used to build, test, release, and demonstrate a data product for space and critical infrastructure work. The role sets patterns for internal development, QA, release-candidate, and demonstration systems. It is a hybrid position for local candidates, with onsite work at least twice a week. This is not a production-support role; the engineer provides reference designs, packages, and handoffs.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in infrastructure, platform, SRE, DevOps, or cloud engineering as a senior individual contributor.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, including reusable modules, state handling, review, and tested promotion.
  • Experience with Linux, container orchestration, cloud or virtualized infrastructure, and hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Practical supply-chain and access security experience, including scanning, secrets, certificates, and remediation.
  • Experience with observability and incident follow-through on shared platform services such as storage, databases, workers, and messaging.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Stand up dependable development, QA, release-candidate, and demo environments, with repeatable provisioning and teardown.
  • Write and maintain infrastructure as code, environment definitions, and promotion workflows across those stages.
  • Control how images and packages move between environments, including versioning, signing, scanning, and retention.
  • Add secrets management, least-privilege access, audit, logs, metrics, and alerts, and drive fixes when internal or demo systems fail.
  • Produce offline installation patterns, mirrored registries, and upgrade or rollback steps for disconnected deployments; keep runbooks and handoff material current.
