About The Position

The Office of Diversity, Opportunity, and Inclusion at Virginia Military Institute is accepting applications for a new Senior Inclusive Programs and Engagement Coordinator. Through the Inclusive Excellence framework, we cultivate the knowledge, skills, and character that prepare cadets to lead effectively across differences and serve honorably in a diverse and interconnected world.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three years of experience coordinating programs, projects, events, engagement initiatives, community partnerships, or administrative operations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and professionalism in a highly visible institutional environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cadets, faculty, staff, alumni, community partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating programs, events, community engagement initiatives, or operational logistics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while also functioning as a collaborative member of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Experience in higher education, military college environments, nonprofit organizations, civic engagement, student affairs, leadership development, community engagement settings, or Inclusive Excellence initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting assessment, reporting, engagement tracking, program evaluation, or project management processes.
  • Experience with Qualtrics or similar assessment, survey, and engagement tracking platforms.
  • Experience coordinating volunteer, civic engagement, service-learning, or community partnership initiatives.
  • Experience in communications, graphic design, social media content creation, outreach initiatives, or partnership development.

Responsibilities

  • Create, coordinate, and implement educational programs, cultural celebrations, service initiatives, and special events that foster leadership development, selfless service, and meaningful connections across the Institute and the wider community.
  • Work collaboratively with cadet organizations, Institute departments, and community organizations to support educational programming, volunteer initiatives, and Institute outreach efforts.
  • Support the planning and execution of post-wide initiatives and signature office programs through event management, stakeholder coordination, and implementation support.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, alumni, Institute stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for community partnerships, service initiatives, and collaborative programs.
  • Coordinate community service and engagement opportunities, including partner communication, scheduling, volunteer recruitment, and event implementation.
  • Develop and maintain systems that connect cadets and employees with service and volunteer opportunities, including opportunity promotion, registration, participation tracking, and partner coordination.
  • Support strategic office initiatives through project coordination, scheduling, logistics management, follow-up, and operational support.
  • Support office assessment and reporting efforts through program evaluation, engagement metrics, attendance tracking, and data management.
  • Manage communications related to office initiatives, programs, community engagement efforts, and events, including promotional materials, social media, newsletters, and Institute communications.
  • Represent the Chief Diversity Officer in institutional meetings, communications, initiatives, and engagement efforts as designated.
  • Serve as acting office lead in the absence of the Chief Diversity Officer, supporting continuity of office operations, initiatives, and communications.
