About The Position

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with three days a week in the office and two days remote. The engineer will work on challenging assignments including the design, investigation, troubleshooting, and solving of a wide variety of HVAC engineering issues. This includes developing integrated HVAC systems such as Commercial/Industrial Ventilation Systems, Control room HVAC, Laboratory HVAC, Chilled water system design, and Heating system design. The role involves providing support in planning, scheduling, conducting, or coordinating detailed design phases of facility engineering work, performing design calculations, developing detailed system designs, and preparing technical specifications for HVAC equipment and engineering studies. The engineer will also support other engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure complete and timely designs, and assist senior engineers with reviews of existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements, potentially presenting findings and recommendations to clients and peers. Familiarity with ASHRAE and Current HVAC Industry Codes and Standards is expected.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program
  • 5+ years of relevant HVAC system, ventilation systems, heating systems, and chilled water system design experience for laboratory and/or industrial facilities
  • Proficiency in TRACE 700 or Carrier HAP
  • Ability to create design flow diagrams, and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Prior knowledge of relevant codes and standards applicable to HVAC and ventilation system
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE and Current HVAC Industry Codes and Standards

Responsibilities

  • Designing of HVAC systems
  • Investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of HVAC engineering issues
  • Developing integrated HVAC systems including Commercial/Industrial Ventilation Systems, Control room HVAC, Laboratory HVAC, Chilled water system design, and Heating system design
  • Providing support in the planning, scheduling, conducting, or coordinating of the detailed design phases of all aspects of facility engineering work
  • Performing design calculations and developing detailed system design
  • Preparing technical specifications for HVAC equipment
  • Preparing engineering studies
  • Providing support to other engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to assure a complete and timely design
  • Assisting senior engineers with reviews of existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements
  • Presenting findings and recommendations to clients and peers
  • Leading others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
  • Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs
