About The Position

This is a salaried, professional and supervisory position providing direct supervision to the paraprofessional staff and social workers in the Justice Support Services (JSS) Section of the Human Services Department. Selection for this position will occur though a competitive process and will be led by the JSS Manager in consultation with a team and Human Services Director. The primary responsibility is ensuring staff are adhering to the guidelines established by the section and the department. Supervision includes intake, assessment, case planning and case management, the court process and assigned related programs. As a supervisor, this position provides administrative direction, case consultation and professional development of assigned social workers and other assigned staff. It is responsible for ensuring continuity and effectiveness of the Unit's services in conformity with the section and agency's policy and procedures. The position requires some evening and weekend hours as staff being supervised work those hours.

Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of approved social work principles, including trauma informed, motivational interviewing and strengths based practices and methods, in the field of evidence-based practice for justice system involved clients.
• Thorough knowledge of current social and economic problems, including the impact of racial disparities, and the way in which these problems affect families and individuals.
• Knowledge and proven experience in effective interventions including evidence based and best practices.
• Extensive knowledge of community agencies and health resources and ways in which these resources may be available to people in need.
• Considerable knowledge of community organization principles and methods.
• Demonstrated commitment to keeping practice up to date and in conformance with latest research and generally accepted best practices in the field of criminal justice and social work.
• Demonstrated commitment to embracing and driving positive change and striving for continuous improvement.
• Ability to direct and supervise the work of others.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, County officials and employees, schools, law enforcement and hospitals.
• Ability to stimulate staff growth and development, provide effective coaching and mentoring and to give effective casework consultation.
• Ability to compute and analyze statistical information of services provided by the Unit.
• Ability to communicate ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.

• Graduation from accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related field with two years social work experience with services to corrections, mental health, substance abuse, or domestic violence with emphasis on evidence-based practice.
• May consider a Bachelor's degree with five years of relevant experience.
• May consider other equivalent combination of training and experience.

Nice To Haves

• Strong preference for at least 1 year experience in supervisory or project management.
• Preference is given to persons with an advanced degree and progressive case practice and experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides supervision and administrative direction for assigned social workers who provide intake, assessment, case planning and case management, and on- going direct services to adults referred by the court, other Human Services Sections, or community partners.
• Ensures staff effectively employ a strength- based approach utilizing evidence-based and best practices.
• Provides supervision and administrative direction to a team of specialists responsible for the electronic monitoring program, drug and alcohol testing, and other assigned tasks.
• Responsible for hiring, supervision, training, motivation, evaluation, providing performance feedback, scheduling and layout of work of departmental personnel.
• Provides ongoing consultation to staff on cases and the need for agency and community services appropriate for that population and to ensure continuity and the effectiveness of services in conformity with state laws and mandates and with agency policy and procedures.
• Reviews and approves assessments, case plans, and other required reports and documentation in compliance with the current agency policy, state standards, evidence-based and best practices.
• Coordinates, monitors and evaluates contracted program outcomes. This includes monitoring the budget, yearly report, statistics, and consultation.
• Prepares required statistics and reports for the Health and Human Services Board, committees and other agency units as requested.
• Prepares grant proposals and other funding requests to be submitted to local, state and federal funding resources.
• Participates in review and development of agency program, policy, and procedures.
• Serves as agency representative on community committees and service-related activities.
• Develops new service programs to meet client needs.
