About The Position

The Sr. Human Resources Generalist serves as a member of the human resources department and oversees day-to-day HR functions for assigned client departments. This temporary position is intended to provide coverage during a maternity leave. Responsibilities include employee relations, policy development and interpretation, regulatory compliance, full-cycle recruitment, investigations, performance management, discipline, and support of safety initiatives. Assists in the development and implementation of HR strategies to attract, recruit, retain, and develop employees aligned with the mission and values of the Greater Cleveland YMCA Association.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 year of human resources generalist experience to include employee relations, compliance, counseling, recruitment, performance management, policy and procedure interpretation and investigations.
  • Minimum of one year recruitment experience, preferably in a corporate human resources environment, including internet and social media sourcing.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver difficult messages and provide objective feedback to employees and leadership.
  • Proven track record in using coaching to develop supervisors and support leaders in addressing employee relations issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to relate to diverse individuals.
  • Ability to work independently and be a strong team player.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Excellent time management, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite with excellent Excel skills, experience with comparable HRIS system preference for Ceridian.
  • Knowledge of state, local, and federal regulations associated with employment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills to be able to interact with all levels of organization, including professionals, senior management, employees and volunteers.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to deliver successful presentations to individuals and/or large groups at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain confidentially regarding sensitive human resources information.
  • Commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA and uphold its values and ethics.
  • All employees are required to follow the child abuse and neglect reporting process including form completion, calling children protective services (696-Kids) and notifying your immediate supervisor, branch executive, risk management and human resources department (s).

Responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships with the leadership and employees of assigned departments and areas.
  • Provide a confidential, trusted source of information that is needed for leaders to manage the human capital aspects of their positions.
  • Coach and advise leadership in employee relations matters, including the areas of performance improvement, corrective counseling, interpretation of HR policies and procedures; ensuring compliance to local, state and federal regulations e.g. ADA, FMLA and YMCA policy and procedure.
  • Develop and maintain new employee orientation materials and conduct NEO sessions as needed.
  • Oversee the performance management system and processes for assigned departments and areas.
  • Conduct independent investigations, ensuring the maintenance of records, reports and logs.
  • Assist in development, implementation & oversight of recognition programs and other events that promote employee engagement.
  • Assist in the development of human resource policies and procedures and the communication of policies and procedures.
  • Support the orientation and training of Dayforce tools for new hires and in other circumstances where training in Dayforce is required.
  • Manage full cycle talent acquisition process, including sourcing, interviewing, hiring and onboarding, ensuring measurement of recruitment methods in accordance with corporate polices and state and federal employment laws.
  • Train leadership regarding internal and external recruitment practices.
  • Track relevant data and generate regular reports on the effectiveness of recruitment efforts.
  • Analyze data to spot trends and make recommendations to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Ensure job descriptions are up to date, accurate and compliant with relevant federal, state and local laws for all positions.
  • Plan and attend career fairs and other external opportunities to recruit employees and to increase awareness of the Greater Cleveland YMCA Association as a desirable employer.
  • Conduct exit interviews to assist the organization in development of retention strategies.
