About The Position

Lydian is an established energy development company specializing in the development and construction of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in North America. Lydian owns 14 assets in development, construction or under operation, consisting of both solar and storage, which reached or are expected to reach FNTP from 2024-2028. Requirements

  • Experience as an electrical, power systems engineer or equivalent: 5+ years
  • Experience with HV equipment 115KV-345KV+ 5+ years
  • Design ,testing and commissioning experience
  • Familiarity with PV or energy storage related controls: 3+ year(s)
  • System protection and control design
  • Expertise in model-based systems/controls engineering
  • Expertise in closed-loop control algorithms.
  • Strong familiarity with power generation and/or grid level control systems.
  • Enthusiasm for getting things done, taking personal responsibility, adding value within a team setting, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience commissioning of HV substation
  • Experience in Energy Management System SCADA or other types of control systems
  • Experience in product HV equipment FAT testing ands report assessment
  • Experience with AutoCAD to develop single line, 2-D Electrical
  • Experience with interconnection applications upgrade requirements
  • BSC in electrical engineering
  • 7+ years’ experience in HV systems (substations, protection, commissioning)
  • Proven track record leading energization and commissioning
  • Strong EPC and OEM coordination experience
  • Proven leadership presence, with experience representing an organization's engineering position in external technical discussions with clients, EPC contractors, and utility partners

Responsibilities

  • Development, coordination and review of designs and technical standards for utility scale solar and BESS projects, managing engineering service providers to achieve this goal.
  • Working with Project PM to finalize the EPC contract and the technical exhibits.
  • Manage the work of engineering services providers and consultants.
  • Establish, maintain and improve technical specifications for Company facilities and equipment.
  • Provide technical support and supervision for the design and construction phases of the project, including value added engineering consistent with the required project specifications and requirements.
  • Provide technical support for the review/preparation of client proposals and EPC/equipment RFP packages.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of EPC and main equipment suppliers.
  • Participate in the preparation, review, and negotiations of the technical exhibits for project sales, equipment procurement and EPC contracting agreements.
  • Provide engineering and QA/QC support to the project management team during project construction and commissioning.
  • Provide technical support for interconnection in collaboration with transmission engineering team.
  • Provide technical direction during startup, testing and commissioning and performance monitoring.
  • Refine procedures for the interface between development and engineering as well as between project managers and engineering.
  • Communicate and influence cross-functionally within Company.
  • Responsible for consultant scopes and associated costs
  • Interfaces with third-party engineering service providers, and subcontractors
  • Specify and Select appropriate materials and components (e.g., cables, connectors, bushings, relays, circuit breakers, MPT, MVT ) for high voltage applications.
  • Review and approve substations, switchyards, and HV collection systems (34.5kV–345kV+)
  • Own protection schemes, relay coordination, grounding, and insulation strategy
  • Define and enforce clear HV scope in EPC contracts and technical exhibits
  • Hold EPC, OEM, and consultants accountable for HV deliverables
  • Lead commissioning readiness and energization for all HV systems
  • Own protection testing, relay validation, and SCADA integration
  • Ensure compliance with utility and interconnection requirements
  • Support transmission and interconnection teams with HV technical inputs
  • Establish and enforce HV QA/QC plan across design, construction, and commissioning
  • Identify and close scope gaps between EPC, OEM, and subcontractors
