Superintendent, High Voltage

Hut 8St. Francisville, LA
Onsite

About The Position

The Superintendent, HV leads high-voltage and substation field execution for a new data center build - owning day-to-day site operations for this scope in a high-stakes, mission-critical environment. Reporting to the Construction Manager and Director, Construction, this role drives schedule, coordinates trades, and enforces safety and quality from mobilization through turnover. Superintendents are the standard on a Hut 8 site: what you walk past, you approve.

Requirements

  • 7+ years supervising high-voltage substation, switchyard, or transmission construction (69kV-345kV) with a utility contractor, EPC, or utility construction organization.
  • Hands-on knowledge of substation construction practice: major equipment setting, bus fabrication, grounding grids, control wiring, and commissioning support.
  • Direct experience coordinating utility outages, switching, clearances, and energization - including work in and around energized facilities under utility rules.
  • Familiarity with relay and protection testing sequences (NETA, end-to-end) and utility acceptance/witness processes.
  • Uncompromising HV safety leadership: switching and tagging, MAD, grounding and bonding; OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Experience managing specialty HV subcontractors and NETA testing firms.
  • Documentation rigor to utility-acceptance standard.
  • Comfortable being the site's HV authority and training adjacent trades on HV hazards.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 30 preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise construction of HV substations and switchyards: foundations and steel structures, bus work, breakers, power transformers, disconnects, grounding grids, and control enclosures. Manage major equipment receiving and setting (including oil handling and SF6 procedures) and verify installation against utility and IFC design packages.
  • Coordinate daily with the serving utility on interconnection scope, clearances, switching orders, and planned outages. Schedule and supervise work inside and adjacent to energized facilities under utility safety rules, hold points, and witness requirements.
  • Sequence and support relay testing, primary injection, doble/megger testing, and end-to-end protection testing with NETA firms and the Protection & Controls Engineer. Own energization readiness: punch completion, test record assembly, safety walkdowns, and utility witness coordination through backfeed and initial energization.
  • Enforce HV-specific safety without exception: minimum approach distances, grounding and bonding, switching and tagging, arc-flash boundaries, and induced-voltage controls. Partner with the HSE Manager on the energization-phase safety plan.
  • Own the HV three-week look-ahead and manage specialty subcontractors and testing firms against schedule and quality commitments. Feed accurate progress and constraints to the Planner/Scheduler - utility windows missed are often windows lost for months.
  • Maintain QC documentation, torque and termination records, test records, and as-builts to utility-acceptance standard, and support turnover of HV systems to operations with the CXQC team.
