About The Position

Hayden Power Group is seeking an experienced Substation General Foreman to lead and coordinate multiple electrical construction projects. This role involves managing an in-house electrical crew, subcontractors, and temporary employees on commercial, industrial, and specialty projects, including medium and high voltage substation construction up to $10 million. The General Foreman will be responsible for coordination and communication with customers and owner's representatives, ensuring high standards of performance and reliability with a focus on safety and efficiency. The position requires active participation in field work when necessary while overseeing crew operations.

Requirements

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in supervisory/team leader role with demonstrated project leadership and management abilities.
Journeyman License requirement in state, locales, or projects, as required.
Valid Driver’s License, satisfactory driving record and reliable transportation required.
Valid first aid/CPR certification
Expertise in 138kV, 69kV and 15kV equipment and all types of testing equipment and circuits.
Excellent communication, leadership and supervision skills.
Manage and oversee all aspects of the construction project as the General Foreman on site.
Maintain working knowledge of applicable electrical codes, including NEC and NFPA standards.
Proficiency with computer and relevant job required hardware/software (i.e. iPad, laptop).
Proficiency in testing electrical systems.
Perform physically demanding tasks such as digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment, laying conduit or moving or lifting heavy objects.
Capable of operating two-handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers, etc.
As required, operate and work from mechanical hydraulic lifts (electric or gas powered).
Operate company trucks in a safe manner, as required.
Operate equipment (i.e., trenchers and backhoes) in a safe manner, as required.
Ability to communicate well and give and follow instructions.

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, depending on job location and season (heat, cold, rain, snow).
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., and perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, reaching, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead for extended periods.
Frequent walking and repetitive hand/arm/finger movements.
Must have normal or corrected vision and be able to safely perform all visual functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to properly identify wire colors including distinguishing between shades of color and brightness in order to splice, join and connect wires to fixtures and components to create circuits.
Must possess sufficient hearing ability, with or without corrective devices, to effectively communicate with others, respond to audible alarms and warnings, and safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must be able to work in noisy environments.
Ability to work on ladders of various types up to 14’, extension ladders, or relocate a 12’ step ladder independently.
Ability to safely comply with manufacturer-rated load capacities on ladders (combined body weight and tools must not exceed: 250lbs (for Class 1), or 300lbs (for Class 1A).
Capable of working at heights up to 60’ on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks, roofs or other safe platforms.
Ability to work in confined or restricted spaces, as required.
Must be able to use construction site sanitary facilities, including portable restrooms.
Must always wear PPE on the job site: hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, safety shoes, gloves, harness, etc. and any additional PPE required by the customer.
Must be able to work scheduled hours, with overtime and potential night shifts, as required, on short notice.
Ability to personally travel to or obtain transportation to job sites locally, regionally, in-state and out-of-state as business requires; evening and weekend work may be required.
On projects assigned outside the local company area, must have the ability to travel and stay at out-of-town jobsite up to 3 to 4 weeks at a time.
Wear personal protective equipment on jobsite at all times: hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, rubber soled boots, gloves, harness (as required), etc.

Responsibilities

Oversee, coordinate, pre-plan and schedule all aspects of multiple electrical construction projects, including manpower, equipment, tools and materials, in conjunction with Hayden project management, other trades, subcontractors, vendors, customer and project ownership.
Lay out all types of work including site and civil work.
Apply complete and thorough knowledge of all electrical materials, tools tasks as needed in a commercial, industrial or specialty electrical installation.
Travel and stay overnight at out-of-town project sites for extended periods when required for projects outside the local area.
Troubleshoot and work in and around medium and high voltage equipment.
Build and maintain professional relationships between company, customers, management, field team, vendors and subcontractors.
Execute and manage required paperwork daily including manpower scheduling, daily journal and associated team tasks.
Analyze, interpret and understand blueprints, including architectural, civil, electrical, fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, drawings and work scope and change orders.
Manage and collect bills of materials and identify project labor needs for effective change order management and time and material work.
Monitor all change order opportunities and risk, and obtain approval prior to work completion.
Review and approve manpower timecards weekly.
Attend weekly and monthly company meetings relevant to improving the team and company.
Troubleshoot electrical systems on commercial, industrial and specialty electrical systems.
Coordinate all required inspections for projects.
Monitor compliance with the Hayden safety program, including identifying and remediating jobsite hazards, conducting post-accident investigations, delivering weekly toolbox talks, and ensuring team member compliance with safety standards.
Ensure that all project-related materials, tools and equipment are maintained in an orderly and safe working fashion and maintain clean work areas daily.
Direct, mentor and coach team leads, journeymen and apprentices, and complete ongoing and yearly performance evaluations.
Actively participate in field work while overseeing crew operations when needed.
Communicate with other employees, management and customers in a professional manner.
Conform to company policies, procedures and safety requirements.
