Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and 6 years of experience in high voltage design or a related field.
  • 5 years' experience in high Voltage (35–500 kV) Substation design experience for Renewable plants (Solar/Wind/BESS), conceptual through commissioning, using AutoCAD, Bluebeam
  • 5 years' experience in high Voltage Generation tie line and medium voltage collector system design experience, conceptual through commissioning
  • 4 years' experience in utilities to obtain technical requirements, negotiate LGIAs, and coordinate drawing reviews to ensure designs meet utility/ISO specifications
  • 4 years' experience in analyzing EPC bids for cost competitiveness, value engineering opportunities, compliance with industry standards and Owner standards
  • 3 years' experience in high Voltage Greenfield, Brownfield, and Merger & Acquisition technical due diligence & portfolio risk assessment
  • 4 years' experience in managing Engineer of Record to develop 10%, 30%, and up to 60% High Voltage design package by providing oversight and ensuring compliance with industry standards such as IEEE, NESC, NFPA, and ISO and Utility-specific requirements
  • 4 years' experience in developing, designing and de-risking deliverables and support High Voltage Estimators with Class 4 and Class 5 estimates, including General Arrangements, Single-Line Diagrams, Bill of Materials
  • 4 years' experience in developing High Voltage circuit breaker and transformer specifications for key Owner Furnished equipment, plus review all design drawings and equipment selection, in person supervise pre-tanking and factory acceptance testing
  • 5 years' experience in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, ETAP, OpenDSS, Google Earth, and Microsoft Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience across DC coupled, AC coupled solar plus BESS, wind, and multiphase project designs, and in maintaining relationships with specialist HV consultants and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptual, preconstruction, and construction phase engineering for Solar, Wind, and BESS high voltage (35–500 kV) substations and generation tie lines.
  • Develop conceptual designs and scope of work documents for permitting, estimating, and regional renewable projects in alignment with AES and utility standards.
  • Manage external engineering consultants through development of 30% design packages for substations and transmission facilities.
  • Perform in-house high voltage design work and support cost estimating, including BOM reviews and substation expansion assessments.
  • Conduct technical due diligence to derisk project pipelines and Merger & Acquisition portfolios, serving as project engineer for all high-voltage functions.
  • Review EPC substation bid packages for compliance with interconnection agreements, NERC standards, AES standards, and industry best practices.
  • Provide design reviews and identify technically incorrect or inconsistent documentation, highlighting critical risks early in project development.
  • Coordinate with interconnection providers (CAISO, HECO, Xcel, Tri State, PacifiCorp, etc.) to ensure compliant collector substations, gen tie designs, and switchyard requirements.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with real estate, permitting, commercial, legal, estimating, PV/Wind/BESS engineering, preconstruction, and construction teams.
