About The Position

The Senior Helper supports the Instrument & Control Department within the Generation Division at Hawaiian Electric Company. This bargaining-unit, non-exempt position performs unskilled and semi-skilled work under direct or indirect supervision, assisting employees in higher classifications with construction, installation, maintenance, and operation of Company facilities. The role helps the employee gain the knowledge needed for indentureship in the trade. The position is based in Kahului, Maui, and follows a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The posted wage is $26.80.

Requirements

Pass the Edison Electric Institute Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH); employees who have passed the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) are not required to take the TECH.
For electrician-related positions, be able to identify and distinguish colors, including shades, hues, and tints.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by Hawaii or another U.S. state or territory.
Meet the Company’s standards for driving positions, which may be periodically adjusted to address business and safety needs.
Pass the Job Sample Test.

Responsibilities

Perform routine tasks under direct or indirect supervision.
Assist employees of higher classifications with their assigned work to acquire trade knowledge for indentureship, using a checklist.
Drive Company vehicles and, as needed, trucks carrying personnel and/or materials.
Operate trucks or equipment of a higher classification if qualified.
Lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment.
Use hand tools, including hammers, saws, screwdrivers, pliers, punches, and wrenches.
Use power tools, including electric or pneumatic drills, guns, and impact wrenches.
Perform assigned emergency-management duties or functions during an emergency; routine trouble calls and callouts are excluded.
Perform similar and incidental duties as required.
