About The Position

The Operator Helper trains to perform the duties of a Senior Operator Helper at the Maalaea diesel plant and performs general maintenance work as assigned. The role mans a shift alongside a Senior Operator Helper and an Operator, performs assigned operational maintenance, and may stand watch in a relief capacity as a Senior Operator Helper once qualified. The employee keeps equipment and the work area clean, maintains watch until relieved, and may be assigned an emergency management role with specific duties during an emergency. Routine trouble calls and callouts are excluded from those emergency assignments. The position is non-exempt and has one bargaining-unit vacancy. Requirements

Possess and maintain a valid driver's license issued by Hawaii or another U.S. state or territory.
Meet the standards for driving positions in the Company Driver Safety policy; these standards may be adjusted periodically.
Pass the Edison Electric Institute Plant Operator Selection System (POSS), unless the employee has taken and passed the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT).
Pass the Job Sample Test.

Responsibilities

Train to perform the duties of a Senior Operator Helper at the diesel plant.
Man a shift with a Senior Operator Helper and an Operator at the diesel plant.
Perform assigned operational maintenance work at the diesel plant.
When qualified, provide relief by standing watch as a Senior Operator Helper.
Keep equipment and the work area clean.
Maintain watch until relieved.
Assume an assigned emergency management role and perform specific duties or functions as needed during an emergency, excluding routine trouble calls and callouts.
Perform similar and incidental duties as required.
