About The Position

The Operator Helper trains to perform the duties of a Senior Operator Helper at Hawaiian Electric Company’s Kahului steam plant and performs general maintenance work as assigned. The role mans a shift with a Senior Operator Helper or Junior Boiler Operator while training for those classifications. It may perform relief watch duties as a Senior Operator Helper when qualified. The position keeps equipment and work areas clean, maintains watch until relieved, helps with overhauls when available, and may perform assigned emergency-management duties during an emergency. The role is non-exempt and has two bargaining-unit vacancies.

Requirements

Possess and maintain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Hawaii or another U.S. state.
Meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy.
Pass the Edison Electric Institute Plant Operator Selection System (POSS); employees who have passed the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) do not need to take the POSS.
Pass the Job Sample Test.

Responsibilities

Train to perform the duties of a Senior Operator Helper at the steam plant.
Man a shift with a Senior Operator Helper or Junior Boiler Operator while training for the duties of those classifications.
Perform assigned operational maintenance work at the steam plant.
Perform relief watch duties as a Senior Operator Helper when qualified.
Keep equipment and work areas clean.
Maintain watch until relieved.
Assume an assigned emergency-management role and perform specific functions as needed during an emergency; routine trouble calls and callouts are excluded.
Help on overhauls when available.
Perform similar and incidental duties as required.
