About The Position

Teradyne’s Integrated Systems Test (IST) Hardware Engineering team is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to support the integration, deployment, and troubleshooting of sophisticated electronic hardware used in system-level test products. Based in Sunnyvale, California, this hands-on role works closely with Teradyne and customer engineering teams to integrate new hardware, investigate interoperability issues, reproduce and diagnose complex technical problems, and drive issues to resolution. The role requires strong board-level engineering fundamentals and the ability to investigate problems at circuit, board, and system levels. The engineer leads hardware integration, bring-up, characterization, validation, and troubleshooting with customer systems and devices. They analyze schematics, circuit behavior, interfaces, board-level power, and digital signals using laboratory equipment, and collaborate with customer and cross-functional engineering teams to communicate findings and improve product design, testability, and reliability. They also support circuit modifications, prototypes, test hardware, and engineering changes, while independently driving assigned technical problems to resolution. The position is based in Sunnyvale, California. Candidates must be local to the position location; relocation is not provided. Approximately 10% to 25% travel is expected, including significant travel to Teradyne’s North Reading, Massachusetts engineering site during initial onboarding. Ongoing travel depends on project and customer needs. The base salary range is $125,400–$200,700, with discretionary bonuses based on financial performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Typically 5 or more years of hands-on electronic hardware engineering, integration, validation, or debug experience.
  • Strong knowledge of digital electronics and working knowledge of analog and mixed-signal circuitry, including the ability to read complex schematics and board-level designs.
  • Experience with embedded processors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, and interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, USB, DDR, I²C, SPI, UART, GPIO, or JTAG.
  • Working knowledge of board-level power conversion, regulation, sequencing, and distribution, as well as PCB concepts including controlled impedance, differential signaling, grounding, and power distribution.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated technical ownership and ability to work independently and effectively with customer and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Must be local to the position location; relocation is not provided.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% to 25%, including significant initial onboarding travel to North Reading, Massachusetts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with semiconductor test, automated test equipment, instrumentation, computing platforms, or other complex electronic systems.
  • Experience with customer-facing engineering, multilayer PCBA debug, DFM/DFT, EMI/EMC, thermal, signal or power integrity, Python-based laboratory automation, or technical mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hands-on integration, hardware bring-up, characterization, validation, and troubleshooting of Teradyne hardware with customer systems and devices.
  • Investigate complex hardware and system interoperability issues, reproduce customer-observed problems, develop experiments, and drive root-cause analysis and resolution.
  • Analyze schematics, circuit behavior, interfaces, board-level power, and high- and low-speed digital signals using laboratory equipment.
  • Work directly with customer engineering teams to understand requirements and integration challenges, and communicate technical findings, risks, recommendations, and next steps.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, FPGA, software, mechanical, systems, manufacturing, and test engineering teams.
  • Provide feedback to improve product design, testability, and reliability.
  • Support circuit modifications, prototypes, test hardware, and engineering changes as needed.
  • Independently drive assigned technical problems to resolution.
