About The Position

The Senior GME Learning and Disability Specialist serves as a strategic leader and subject matter expert in supporting residents and fellows with disabilities within the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs. This position independently develops and implements advanced case management strategies to address the multifaceted needs of a diverse trainee population, ensuring equitable access to accommodations and fostering academic and professional success. Leveraging expertise in disability services and adult learning, the specialist designs and executes individualized learning plans, including accommodations, skill-building strategies, and academic coaching tailored to the unique challenges of medical education. This role requires high-level decision-making to assess complex medical, psychological, and educational documentation; determine reasonable accommodations without compromising the essential elements of training; and provide expert guidance on addressing performance and learning challenges, such as time management, test preparation, and clinical reasoning. The Senior Specialist proactively collaborates with program directors, faculty, and institutional leaders, offering consultations, training, and resources to enhance the GME programs' capacity to support trainees with diverse needs. Additionally, this position oversees the development and management of testing accommodations, ensuring compliance with legal standards and institutional policies while maintaining the integrity of assessments. Working with minimal supervision, the Senior Specialist exercises independent judgment to address sensitive and high-stakes issues, integrates evidence-based practices to foster an inclusive learning environment, and establishes processes for tracking and evaluating trainee progress. Regular responsibilities may include flexible hours to accommodate the demanding schedules of medical trainees. This role emphasizes a proactive and holistic approach, supporting residents and fellows—including those undergoing diagnostic evaluations—to achieve their full potential within the rigorous and complex environment of GME training.
