Senior Full Stack Engineer (Agentic Search) - Platform
About The Position
Tavily is building infrastructure for agentic web interaction at scale, with APIs designed for Retrieval-Augmented Generation and real-time reasoning in AI systems. The Senior Full Stack Engineer will build how developers and AI agents access this infrastructure. The role is based in Tavily’s New York office and is hybrid with the NYC team. The team owns the main API gateway, customer platform for keys, usage and teams, identity and enterprise SSO, and public product interfaces including SDKs, CLI, MCP servers and other developer and agent tools. The engineer will work closely with product, design and engineers across R&D, building and operating customer-facing product features and high-traffic infrastructure.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of full-stack engineering experience on customer-facing products or high-throughput APIs, in any mix of frontend and backend.
- Strong backend engineering skills; Python is preferred, while Go, C++ or C experience combined with some Python experience is also suitable.
- Experience building and operating latency-sensitive, high-QPS APIs, including caching, asynchronous work, queues, retries, rate limiting, long-running jobs and webhooks.
- Experience shipping production UI with a modern frontend framework such as React, Next.js or TanStack; TypeScript is preferred.
- Experience building data-heavy interfaces such as tables, charts and filters that remain fast.
- Ability to work effectively in a mature, user-facing system: ramp up quickly in a complex codebase, ship safely under real traffic and participate in on-call.
- Strong product and design sense for both interfaces and APIs.
- Ability to take work from design through production, explain trade-offs clearly to partners, navigate ambiguity and use AI tools in development.

Responsibilities
- Design and ship features end to end, from the interface through the services and data behind it.
- Build and improve a high-traffic, low-latency, reliable API gateway.
- Turn usage, billing and team data into fast, usable interfaces, including tables, charts, filters and forms.
- Shape the self-service journey from signup through activation.
- Build and operate production identity and team access, including OAuth and OIDC, role-based access, SAML SSO and SCIM.
- Control feature availability using feature flags for staged rollouts and entitlements after rollout.
- Improve public interfaces used by developers and agents, including SDKs, CLI, MCP servers and documentation.
