About The Position

Lead the design, development, and delivery of new capabilities for Caterpillar Financial’s AI workflow platform. This hands-on application engineering role combines full stack development and AI technologies to turn ideas into scalable, production-ready solutions. The position serves as the hands-on technical lead for a six-person global development team, rapidly validating ideas through working proofs of concept, setting engineering standards, and ensuring shipped solutions are sound. It partners with technical and business stakeholders to solve complex challenges, establish engineering best practices, advance modern software delivery through CI/CD, and ensure AI-enabled capabilities are secure, reliable, and compliant. The role influences platform architecture, mentors developers, and contributes to a major Caterpillar Financial technology transformation initiative. It is not a DevOps or cloud infrastructure role. The position requires onsite work five days per week. Relocation is available; visa sponsorship is not available. The required education is a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, including building and supporting production applications.
  • At least 2 years as a technical lead or go-to code reviewer for a development team.
  • Experience mentoring developers and improving code quality through code review and pairing.
  • Strong production front-end development experience with React and TypeScript as part of a team.
  • Strong back-end experience building services and APIs in Python or Node.js.
  • Hands-on experience building applications on AWS cloud services, such as serverless compute, API management, storage, and managed AI services.
  • Experience building integrations with enterprise systems, such as Snowflake, ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, or GitHub.
  • Experience with relational databases and REST APIs.
  • Proficiency with GitHub-based workflows, including branching, pull requests, and code review.
  • Hands-on experience building generative AI into applications relied on by real users, such as large language models, agent-based workflows, retrieval, and evaluation.
  • A track record of turning prototypes into production-ready, maintainable solutions.
  • Experience writing automated tests and supporting release and deployment processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work through ambiguous problems.
  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience building automated test suites and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience designing component libraries or shared UI frameworks.
  • Understanding of secure application development practices.
  • Experience with workflow, low-code, or process automation platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead proof-of-concept and development work for new capabilities, partnering with the Technical Product & Delivery Lead and development team to take them into production.
  • Design and build full stack features across React/TypeScript front ends, Python or Node.js services and APIs, and AWS cloud services.
  • Drive UI/UX and front-end architecture decisions to keep the Artemis platform intuitive, consistent, and easy to use as it grows.
  • Build AI-enabled capabilities and agent-based workflows, including prompt and context design, evaluation, and safety and reliability guardrails.
  • Design and build integrations with enterprise systems such as Snowflake, ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, and GitHub.
  • Establish reusable patterns, coding standards, and shared components for the platform.
  • Own the platform’s test strategy, write and maintain automated tests, and develop test coverage and pipeline practices that move the team toward CI/CD.
  • Support production deployments and lead root-cause analysis of complex production issues to drive lasting fixes.
  • Review designs and GitHub pull requests, approve changes moving to production, and mentor developers to reduce key-person dependency and build team depth.
