About The Position

Modern Family Law is seeking a Senior Frontend React Engineer to build the frontend for a new technology product supporting real legal workflows used by clients and attorneys. This is a greenfield product integrating enterprise systems, payments, data, and AI capabilities. The engineer will own the frontend architecture and implementation in React and TypeScript, establish maintainable application patterns, and help shape the product as it grows. The role works closely with product and backend engineers to turn designs and interactive prototypes into production-ready experiences, define API contracts and data structures, and build secure, role-aware interfaces for sensitive client information. It also includes integrating AI-enabled workflows, ensuring accessibility, performance, responsive behavior, browser compatibility, and production quality, and establishing automated testing practices. The engineer will review code, set frontend standards, and provide technical guidance to an existing frontend developer. Candidates must live within commuting distance of one of the firm’s offices in San Jose, Oakland, Seattle, Bellevue, or Everett. Work from anywhere may be available after six months. Compensation is $130,000–$145,000 annually, described as a reliable estimate of base salary plus projected bonuses and billable-hour commission; actual pay may vary based on experience, location, billable-hour expectations, and other job-related factors.

Requirements

Production experience building React and TypeScript applications with complex user workflows.
Experience establishing frontend architecture for products with meaningful application state and significant backend-service integration.
Strong knowledge of component architecture, state management, forms, routing, and maintainable frontend patterns.
Experience building multi-step or workflow-based applications with validation, conditional logic, persistence, recovery, and clear error states.
Understanding of frontend authentication flows and role-aware interfaces, including controls that must be enforced by backend services.
Experience partnering with backend engineers to define API contracts and data structures.
Strong accessibility, responsive-design, browser-compatibility, and frontend-performance practices.
Experience implementing automated frontend testing for critical components and user workflows.
Ability to review code, establish frontend standards, and provide technical guidance to other frontend developers.
Ability to work independently as the senior frontend engineer on a greenfield product and make sound architectural decisions.
Must reside within a commutable distance of an office in San Jose, Oakland, Seattle, Bellevue, or Everett.

Responsibilities

Own frontend architecture and implementation in React and TypeScript, from shared components and application structure through production workflows.
Translate product designs and interactive prototypes into production-ready user experiences in collaboration with product and backend engineers.
Develop frontend patterns for complex multi-step workflows, including forms, conditional logic, validation, autosave, resumption, loading states, error handling, and recovery.
Partner with the Senior Backend API Engineer to define API contracts, data structures, error handling, and client/server responsibilities.
Establish component architecture, state-management patterns, routing, form strategy, and frontend conventions.
Build secure, role-aware experiences for clients and attorneys, with validation, clear feedback, and accurate presentation of permissions and workflow state.
Integrate AI-powered capabilities into product workflows and design how generated content, sources, confirmations, corrections, loading states, and failures are presented.
Own frontend performance, accessibility, responsive behavior, browser support, and production quality.
Establish testing practices for critical components and user workflows, including component, workflow, and regression coverage.
Review code, set frontend standards, and provide technical guidance to the existing frontend developer as the team grows.
