About The Position

Betterment’s Risk Operations team protects the platform and customers from fraud and financial crime. The Senior Fraud Analyst is the analytical owner of customer risk rating, KYC, and fraud monitoring models, using data to shape how the company detects, prevents, and responds to emerging fraud trends. The role partners closely with Data, Compliance, and Product to design controls, build monitoring, and advise leadership on model performance, threats, and residual risk. The position is based in Betterment’s New York City office. Betterment describes its NY-based roles as hybrid, with four days per week in-office and no required office days during summer and winter holidays. The NYC base salary range is $135,000–$160,000, and the job may also be eligible for a company incentive bonus. The analyst manages fraud rules and controls, owns customer risk and KYC models, and builds monitoring and reporting that surfaces fraud KPIs, trends, model health, and control coverage. The role also leads cross-functional projects, works with Engineering on data harvesting, analytics, and rule implementation, and assesses vendor solutions. It balances fraud loss prevention with customer experience and operational efficiency, including reducing unnecessary account locks and verification requests while maintaining strong controls.
