About The Position

Mappedin is building the digital infrastructure for the physical world with its indoor mapping platform. This role is for a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) who will be part of the early stages of building the team and department. The FDE will build applications on Mappedin's platform based on customer needs, working closely with sales engineering, sellers, and customers. This is a founding-team opportunity where the FDE will help define the team's processes. FDEs are expected to be versatile, capable of customer interaction, problem scoping, solution design, and building with AI tooling. They will own their projects end-to-end, acting as project managers accountable for delivery within committed timelines.

Requirements

Proven ability to build apps using AI, having shipped real software with modern AI-assisted development.
Proven ability to engage customers, comfortable in front of them, asking great questions, and translating ambiguous needs into concrete scope.
Proven ability to manage time and own delivery, capable of running own projects, setting realistic timelines, and consistently delivering against committed scope.
Strong product and design taste, with a sharp instinct for what to build and how it should feel, caring about user experience and distinguishing between functional and genuinely good solutions.
Ability to blend engineering, project management, and external communications.

Responsibilities

Partner with sellers and customers to understand problems, ask questions, and deliver working applications that meet statement of work criteria.
Design and build custom applications on Mappedin's platform, utilizing AI tooling for rapid development.
Own delivery from start to finish, managing scope, timeline, and workstream as the de facto project manager.
Maintain close customer contact throughout the build, demoing progress, gathering feedback, and making adjustments.
As a senior member, build best practices for QA within the Delivery team.
Help establish patterns, tooling, and ways of working with the VP of Delivery to define the team's operational model as it scales.
Travel on-site to customer venues to work directly with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle (up to 40% travel globally).
For US-based FDEs, occasionally handle technical support tickets for the largest customer, requiring US-based coverage (no more than 10% of time, focused on backend/DevOps tasks).
