Senior Forward Deployment Engineer
About The Position
As a Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer, you will work directly with enterprise customers on high-impact projects involving Generative AI, large language models, and modern application development. You will help organizations migrate legacy databases, modernize architecture, and integrate AI-driven functionality into their applications. The role applies software engineering expertise to real-world engineering challenges, supports AI adoption across industries, and contributes insights that influence MongoDB’s AI strategy and product direction. The role can be performed remotely anywhere in the U.S. or from a MongoDB North America office, including Seattle, Denver, Raleigh, San Francisco, Palo Alto, New York, and Washington, DC. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and customer teams to deliver scalable, resilient software solutions. Requirements
- At least 8 years of software engineering experience.
- A proven track record of delivering impactful technical solutions for enterprise clients; experience with Java, SQL, and Python is preferred.
- An engineering degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Network Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of AI/ML concepts, tools, and open-source development.
- Proficiency in test-driven development methodologies.
- Familiarity with monolithic and microservices architectures, including database migration and refactoring.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for tackling complex challenges and driving innovation through software development.

- Experience designing and implementing AI-powered applications.
- Academic research experience in parsing, AI/ML, or programming languages.
Responsibilities
- Work with enterprise customers to refactor applications, migrate legacy databases, and optimize performance using MongoDB.
- Prototype and build AI-powered features using LLMs and Generative AI frameworks to improve software development workflows and application functionality.
- Apply modern software engineering practices to accelerate customers’ AI adoption, including implementation of microservices-based architectures, intelligent automation, and AI-enhanced applications.
- Share insights from real-world implementations and customer needs to influence MongoDB’s AI and software development roadmap.
- Collaborate across engineering, product, and customer teams to create scalable, resilient software solutions.
