Sr Forward Deployment Engineer

T-Mobile•Frisco, WA
•$142,300 - $256,700

About The Position

The Senior Engineer, Forward Deployment is an experienced technical practitioner who embeds within a T-Mobile business unit and works with substantially more autonomy than an Engineer FDE. Senior FDEs drive the technical agenda for new agentic AI delivery, mentor Engineers co-deployed with them, and act as domain leads when needed. The role combines hands-on engineering with emerging leadership accountability, and performance is measured by validated return on investment outcomes for the domain and the quality and impact of the supported delivery team. The position reports to the Manager or Senior Manager, Forward Deployment Engineer within the assigned domain. The role designs and delivers agentic AI solutions in live production environments, including integrations, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, prompt orchestration, and multi-agent workflows tailored to business-unit needs. It leads stakeholder scoping and diagnostics, evaluates workflow and data readiness, runs controlled experiments, and documents measured business impact. The Senior Engineer also mentors Engineers, contributes to the Forward Deployment practice’s methodology and reporting, and communicates delivery progress and milestones to business-unit stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field; relevant equivalent experience is accepted.
  • 4–7+ years of production engineering experience with hands-on LLM deployment, including prompt engineering, RAG architecture, and agent orchestration.
  • Validated ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous environments and deliver measurable AI outcomes.
  • Experience building system integrations with enterprise data sources.
  • Strong production Python skills and proficiency in at least one additional language: Go, TypeScript, or Java.
  • Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based systems, including prompt engineering, RAG architecture, agent orchestration, hallucination mitigation, and performance benchmarking.
  • Proficiency in complex SQL and ETL/ELT pipeline design, with experience integrating AI solutions with enterprise and telecom data sources.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP; AWS is primary.
  • Ability to instrument deployed systems with real-time logging and feedback collection.
  • Ability to lead technical delivery and mentor engineers in ambiguous environments, adapting communication to business partners and leadership.
  • Ability to apply data privacy, security, and responsible AI principles, build guardrails and compliance considerations into solutions, understand T-Mobile data classification standards, and handle sensitive data appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to embed within a business unit, earn partner trust rapidly, and deliver working AI systems under real operational constraints.
  • Comfort operating amid ambiguity without extensive process scaffolding.
  • Ability to translate engineering tradeoffs into plain-language business impact for business-unit managers and turn vague business requests into precise engineering requirements.
  • Experience moving rapidly from proof of concept to production-grade delivery, judging when a prototype is ready to ship and hardening it without full re-architecture.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willingness to travel.

Nice To Haves

  • 7–10+ years of prior experience in solutions engineering, embedded technical, or forward deployment roles.
  • Track record of delivering AI solutions that measurably improved a business outcome metric.
  • Experience navigating stakeholder environments from business-unit operators to middle management.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the technical agenda for new agentic AI delivery within the assigned business domain.
  • Lead scoping and diagnostic sessions with business-unit stakeholders and technical program managers to define requirements, map workflows, and assess data and integration readiness.
  • Maintain trusted working relationships with business-unit managers and communicate delivery progress and milestones to domain stakeholders.
  • Design and deliver new agentic AI solutions in live production environments.
  • Implement system integrations, RAG pipelines, prompt orchestration layers, and multi-agent workflows tailored to business-unit needs.
  • Run controlled A/B experiments and document measured return on investment impact.
  • Build integration layers connecting AI solutions to business-unit tools and data sources.
  • Normalize business-unit datasets for AI system consumption, identify and close data quality gaps, and share domain insights through structured engineering handoffs.
  • Mentor and technically guide Engineers co-deployed in the same domain; provide code reviews, solution feedback, and coaching on delivery standards.
  • Support onboarding of FDEs rotating into the domain and contribute to FDE practice methodology.
  • Contribute to practice reporting cycles supporting technical program manager-defined requirements and delivery planning.
  • Document failure modes, edge cases, and performance gaps; participate in rotation planning and knowledge-transfer sessions.
  • Own and independently lead scoping sessions, end-to-end solution architecture and delivery, and design decisions across the agentic stack.
  • Define reusable domain patterns and integration architecture, and make final decisions on data quality remediation approaches.
  • Own the domain-level reporting narrative, synthesize Engineer inputs into practice-level insights, author domain case studies, and contribute to FDE playbook development.
  • Define the framework and be accountable for measured return on investment outcomes.
