About The Position

Our Raleigh Fire Department is hiring a Senior Fleet Maintenance Specialist to join our team! Fire Department mechanics are assigned to work on fire apparatus only, providing a unique opportunity for focused work. The perks of joining Raleigh Fire Department: Fleet Maintenance Specialist mechanics who obtain an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification are eligible for a salary incentive (5%) and certification fee reimbursement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent and at least 6 months of training beyond High School in Automotive Repair or related field, with 3 to 5 years’ experience in automotive repair, vehicle electronics, or a related field OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive Service Excellence certifications (City of Raleigh can provide fee reimbursement for obtaining this certification)

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced fleet repairs and preventative maintenance on fire apparatus such as aerial ladders, fire engines, and heavy-duty rescue trucks, using the set of tools provided
  • Troubleshoot issues with fire pumps, aerial devices, drivetrains, cooling systems, and electrical components
