About The Position

McGraw Hill, a leading provider of digital and print educational resources, is seeking a Senior Analyst, Finance to join its Finance organization within Higher Education. This role reports to the Finance Manager and acts as a high-level strategic liaison to the Accounting team. The primary responsibilities include ensuring revenue forecasting/budgeting, deferred revenue modeling, and reserves methodology are aligned with GAAP revenue recognition standards. The position involves serving as a mentor and technical lead, analyzing revenue behavior to understand the impact of distribution models and product lifecycles on the P&L. This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of heavy-duty revenue modeling experience with a deep understanding of revenue recognition principles, Price/Volume/Mix analysis, and the mechanics of Deferred Revenue.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required.
  • Expert-level Excel (Power Query/Modeling); experience with BI tools (Tableau/PowerBI) and GL systems (Oracle, IBM Cognos).
  • Deep experience modeling the distinct sales, return, and revenue recognition behaviors of both physical goods and service-based credits/adjustments.
  • Proven ability to analyze large transactional datasets to identify trends in retention or churn, expansion or contraction, and yield erosion or pricing optimization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a lead or mentorship capacity, including project management or active coaching and peer-review of junior financial analysts (preferred).
  • CPA, CFA, MBA, or other relevant professional certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary functional link between Finance and Accounting, ensuring forward-looking forecasts/budgets and Accounting results are reconciled and grounded in the same revenue recognition logic.
  • Produce month, quarter, and year-end close deliverables and variance analysis, and create forward-looking forecasts/budgets with associated management reporting materials.
  • Translate revenue recognition policies into functional forecasting drivers, ensuring models accurately reflect performance obligations and the timing of revenue release in accordance with GAAP standards.
  • Evaluate the entire company portfolio of sales transactions to perform deep-dive Price/Volume/Mix analysis, distinguishing revenue growth driven by raw volume versus pricing power or optimized yield.
  • Manage the disparate financial behaviors of Pre-Activity (physical inventory/fulfillment) and Post-Billed (usage-based/consumption) distribution channels, partnering with Billing and IT to minimize revenue leakage.
  • Analyze the behavior of existing products and lead modeling for New Product Introductions (NPI), including ramp-up curves and cannibalization risks.
  • Own the methodology for returns reserves, bad debt, and revenue allowances, incorporating predictive operational data to ensure reserves are optimized for risk and reflect true net yield.
  • Act as a technical lead by reviewing analyst work, providing guidance on complex modeling techniques, and defining standardized revenue modeling protocols across the Finance team.
