Senior Engineering Technician, Civil (Advanced Power Generation)
About The Position
Black & Veatch's Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) group delivers civil site development for its projects, including grading and drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities. The Senior Engineering Technician, Civil leads design teams on Advanced Power Generation projects, creating and modifying site development plans. This is a contract-to-hire assignment through an employer of record, with one opening. Candidates must live within 50 miles of a Black & Veatch office in Overland Park, Kansas; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Houston, Texas; or Cary, North Carolina. The listed schedule is October 5, 2026, through an estimated April 5, 2027, at 40 hours per week. A background check and drug screen are required before starting.
Requirements
- Associate degree in drafting or an engineering design technology.
- Typically 11 or more years of related work experience.
- Advanced skill in Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, and Bentley OpenPlant Modeler.
- Must live within 50 miles of an office in Overland Park, Kansas; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Houston, Texas; or Cary, North Carolina.
- Complete a background check and drug screen before starting.

Responsibilities
- Establish and communicate design and graphic standards, and review project requirements and design inputs.
- Ensure deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards, and manage drawing control.
- Perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, and estimates.
- Review other team members' deliverables and monitor production for consistency, budget, and schedule.
- Coordinate with other design groups and potentially support field activities or plant startup.
- Provide technical guidance and training to other technicians.
