About The Position

Brunel has partnered with SB Energy to hire a Manager, Electrical Engineering – Power Generation for its growing Engineering team. SB Energy develops and delivers large-scale power and data center infrastructure projects across the United States. The role provides technical leadership for electrical systems supporting hyperscale data centers and onsite power generation facilities. It focuses on integrating gas turbines, gas engines, generators, medium-voltage distribution, protection and control systems, microgrids, backup power, and utility interconnections into mission-critical data center environments. The position supports the full project lifecycle, from concept development and equipment selection through detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness. The goal is to deliver electrical infrastructure with high reliability, availability, scalability, efficiency, and performance. The position is 100% remote and requires up to 20% domestic and international travel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of electrical systems for hyperscale data centers, including medium- and low-voltage power distribution, onsite generation, backup and emergency power systems, and utility interconnections.
  • Lead the electrical design and integration of onsite generation solutions, including gas turbines, gas engines, microgrids, and hybrid energy systems.
  • Provide electrical design oversight throughout the data center project lifecycle, from early concept through commissioning.
  • Ensure generation, distribution, and backup power systems meet performance, reliability, availability, scalability, and energy-efficiency objectives.
  • Review and optimize onsite power generation system designs, including generator step-up transformers, medium-voltage distribution, protection and controls, synchronization systems, load sharing, black start capabilities, and utility interconnections.
  • Partner with data center clients to develop power strategies balancing reliability, scalability, construction schedules, sustainability objectives, CAPEX, and OPEX.
  • Support evaluation and selection of gas turbines, gas engines, generators, switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and associated balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Provide technical leadership for electrical and power generation studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, transient stability, reactive power, and grid interconnection studies.
  • Lead technical due diligence and evaluation of power generation equipment, assessing performance, reliability, availability, emissions compliance, maintainability, vendor capabilities, lifecycle costs, and suitability.
