Senior Engineering Manager, Multilingual AI - Siri

About The Position

Siri is evolving into a deeply personal, agentic AI that understands personal context, reasons about on-screen content, and takes action across apps, while maintaining Apple's privacy foundation. Global Siri brings these capabilities to users in supported languages and regions. The Senior Engineering Manager will lead a multi-team AI engineering organization responsible for internationalization architecture, cross-functional integration, and engineering readiness of next-generation Siri and Apple Intelligence features. The role owns end-to-end outcomes, from technical strategy and scalable machine-learning architecture through model development, data, and evaluation to production systems running on-device and in Apple's Private Cloud Compute. The organization covers multilingual language understanding and LLMs; speech and multimodal input, including ASR, TTS, and speaker understanding; agentic capabilities; multilingual and end-to-end evaluation; and scalable data and platform systems for collecting, annotating, and generating data and accelerating language launches. The manager will partner with Siri Speech, Experience, Platform, and Foundation Model teams, as well as product, design, research, data science, and regional engineering organizations. They will set technical direction, develop managers and engineers, influence roadmaps across Siri and Apple Intelligence, and communicate progress and decisions to senior leadership.

Requirements

At least 10 years of experience building software and/or machine-learning systems.
At least 5 years managing engineering teams.
Experience managing managers or leading a multi-team organization, with a track record of developing first-line managers and senior engineers.
Hands-on technical background in software and/or ML engineering, with depth in at least one of LLM-based products, language technologies, speech systems, or multimodal AI products.
Proven track record of shipping ML-powered products at scale and detailed understanding of development, evaluation, integration, and release readiness.
Strong leadership, planning, and prioritization skills, with demonstrated ability to deliver complex cross-functional programs.
Excellent written and verbal communication, including presenting to executive leadership and working with people across a range of backgrounds and technical expertise.
B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, Linguistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

M.S. or Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Speech and Language Technologies, Computational Linguistics, or a closely related field.
Experience building multilingual or international AI systems, especially across multiple markets, languages, or low-resource settings.
Experience developing, training, or fine-tuning LLMs, speech models, or multimodal models, including for on-device or efficiency-constrained deployment.
Experience with conversational AI, agentic systems, and evaluation of agentic or generative AI products.
Strong background in experimental design and data science, including building evaluation frameworks that drive product decisions.
Demonstrated expertise using AI-assisted software development workflows to accelerate engineering while maintaining code quality.
Excellent strategic vision and ability to set direction in ambiguous, fast-moving technical areas.
Working proficiency in more than one language, or experience collaborating closely with linguists and in-market teams.

Responsibilities

Lead and grow a multi-team organization of machine-learning and software engineers, including first-line managers and senior technical leaders.
Set the technical strategy and multi-year engineering plan for bringing Siri and Apple Intelligence capabilities to international markets; establish priorities, milestones, and owners.
Own key decisions on ML architecture and language technologies across Siri products and technologies, and shape model and platform requirements with partner teams.
Build scalable, repeatable systems and processes that reduce the cost and time required to add and improve languages.
Establish rigorous, data-driven evaluation for each locale, including agentic and end-to-end evaluation, and use results to guide investment and launch decisions.
Lead data strategy, including annotation programs, data quality, and language-specific representations, conventions, and guidelines.
Partner across Siri and Apple Intelligence to ensure international needs are considered throughout the technology stack from the start.
Champion modern engineering practices and reusable GenAI-assisted workflows to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality and reliability.
Attract, hire, develop, and retain talent, and foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, inclusion, and care.
Communicate strategy, engineering decisions, delivery progress, and cross-functional risks to senior leadership and partner organizations.
Work with foundation model and feature teams on multilingual and locale-specific scaling, model architecture and behavior, adaptation, and evaluation of reasoning, generation, personal context, and on-screen awareness.
Oversee international speech and multimodal technologies, including ASR, TTS, speaker understanding, and fusion of voice, vision, and text across languages, accents, and dialects.
Ensure agentic Siri capabilities reliably take action across apps and services while accounting for regional apps, conventions, and expectations.
Develop scalable data and platform systems for data collection, annotation, synthetic data generation, language-specific representations, and tooling and pipelines that make language launches faster.
