Senior Engineer, State Estimation - Ranger (R6390)

Shield AI•Seattle, WA
•$200,000 - $300,000

About The Position

Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-technology company whose mission is to protect service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Its products include Hivemind autonomy software, V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, and Aechelon simulation and synthetic reality technologies. The State Estimation Engineer works on the GNC team to develop and optimize algorithms that process and fuse data from multiple sensors, providing accurate and reliable state estimates so the Ranger can operate in complex and contested environments. The role develops sensor algorithms and real-time processing pipelines, integrates estimation algorithms with broader systems, and validates performance through experiments and field tests.

Requirements

  • Typically, at least 5 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, 4 years with a master's degree, 2 years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience developing and deploying real-time sensor-processing algorithms, such as those for cameras, radar, IMUs, and GPS.
  • Solid understanding of state-estimation techniques, such as Kalman filters and particle filters.
  • Experience with C++11 or newer.
  • Experience with Linux and command-line tools.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
  • A track record of shipping products, navigating development cycles, overcoming obstacles, and delivering high-quality solutions to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated work ethic, trustworthiness as a teammate, high standards for oneself and others, and kindness.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing inertial-navigation algorithms on real-time processing systems.
  • Knowledge of computer-vision techniques.
  • Proficiency optimizing algorithms for compute-constrained systems.
  • Experience with CUDA or other hardware-acceleration technologies, such as FPGAs.
  • A track record of transitioning work from research and development to production.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement advanced algorithms to process data from IMUs, radar, cameras, GPS, and other sensors.
  • Integrate data from multiple sensors to improve the accuracy and robustness of state-estimation algorithms.
  • Design and implement real-time sensor-data processing pipelines.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, autonomy researchers, and hardware engineers to integrate state-estimation algorithms.
  • Conduct experiments and field tests to validate algorithm performance in real-world scenarios.
  • Stay current with advances in sensor technologies and state estimation and apply relevant advances to company systems.
