Senior Engineer, Data & Perception

Senra Systems•Cypress, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Senra Systems is hiring a Senior Engineer to own the technical implementation of the data and perception layer for its Automation Program, which automates complex manufacturing beginning with electrical wire harnesses. The role builds cameras, sensors, capture systems, data pipelines, and perception models that make production-line activity usable by factory software, industrial engineers, and robots. The work is hands-on and takes place on real production lines, with new capabilities deployed directly into manufacturing operations. The engineer will establish line instrumentation and the factory data layer, deliver production computer vision and automated measurement, and create data infrastructure for robot learning. The role works with production robotics, robot learning, and industrial engineering teams, partners with senior engineers, and helps set the program’s direction as the team grows. The position reports to Senra’s cofounder and Head of AI & Robotics. The position is based onsite at the Cypress, California facility, with regular time at the Redondo Beach, California facility. Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors, with a stated salary range of $180,000–$230,000.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience building data infrastructure or perception systems that run in production, including experience serving as technical lead.
  • Experience training, deploying, and monitoring computer vision models using camera data from manufacturing, robotics, logistics, or similar physical-world settings.
  • Experience engineering data systems for large volumes of video and sensor data, including capture, pipelines, storage, labeling, and tooling for training and evaluation.
  • Experience selecting, calibrating, and synchronizing cameras and sensors on real hardware, and working with edge compute.
  • Strong Python and SQL skills and experience with a deep learning framework such as PyTorch.
  • Comfort deploying systems to cloud and edge environments; C++ experience where performance requires it.
  • Track record of rapid prototyping, testing on real hardware, and iterating toward reliable results.
  • Ability to take end-to-end ownership of a technical area, collaborate with senior engineers, and communicate clearly with technicians, engineers, and leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical or computer engineering, robotics, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Must meet U.S. Person eligibility requirements under ITAR or be eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building robot-learning data infrastructure, including teleoperation or demonstration capture, dataset management, and evaluation.
  • Experience with activity or step recognition from video or automated time study.
  • Experience integrating with manufacturing systems such as MES or ERP, or with factory software.
  • Experience handling export-controlled or regulated data such as ITAR, CUI, or CMMC data.
  • Experience in wire harness, cable assembly, or other high-mix assembly.
  • Startup or high-growth company experience.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or helping build a team.

Responsibilities

  • Instrument production workstations and cells with cameras, sensors, capture software, and reliable edge hardware.
  • Build pipelines and storage for video, sensor, and robot data, connected to jobs, operations, and parts in the company’s factory software.
  • Develop and deploy computer vision for inspection, step and activity recognition, part and wire detection, and cell sensing.
  • Generate automated measurements, including time studies, step logs, and photo records, to inform planning, pricing, and quality.
  • Build demonstration capture, labeling, datasets, and evaluation infrastructure for robot learning in collaboration with the Senior Robotics Engineer, Robot Learning.
  • Establish data governance and security practices, including technician consent, access control, and handling of export-controlled and customer data.
  • Set engineering standards and evaluate vendors and platforms where purchasing is preferable to building.
  • Help hire and mentor engineers as the team grows.
  • Partner with senior engineers and the Head of AI & Robotics to execute and shape the technical roadmap.

Benefits

  • Equity participation.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability coverage.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Dependent Spending Account (DSA).
  • 20 vacation days per year and 12 company holidays.
