About The Position

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of plans and procedures for the testing and commissioning of highly complex transmission and distribution substation projects. The role works closely with System Test and Protection & Controls Engineering in the development of project test and commissioning plans with a focus on ensuring safety and eliminating issues and errors during the commission process. The position is responsible for commissioning of substation equipment as individual units (breakers, transformers, etc.) as well as overall project commission including controls, systems, relays, metering, etc. In addition, this position coordinates the evaluation of system failures, and the appropriate resolutions, in order to provide support to operations on unplanned maintenance. This position is responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing and directing the work performed by other engineers. This position may require on-call responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related discipline
  • Minimum of five (5) years in utility distribution/transmission engineering
  • Valid CT/MA/NH driver’s license

  • Substation Engineering, Power Systems, or related electric utility experience
  • Substation equipment testing and/or commissioning

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring complex substation projects are tested and commissioned in accordance with industry and Eversource standards with a focus on safety and maintaining system reliability
  • Assisting in the development of standards and procedures for the test and commissioning of substation projects
  • Collaborating with Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork
  • Accountable for root-cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective actions relating to project commissioning
  • Managing, coaching, developing and reviewing performance of engineers and other staff
  • Supervising, administratively and/or functionally, engineers and other direct reports, as assigned
  • Developing and managing a preventive maintenance optimization program
  • Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs as part of every employee’s role, including potential Emergency Restoration assignments outside of normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.
