Senior Commissioning Engineer
About The Position
The Senior Commissioning Engineer is responsible for coordinating electrical installation, ensuring conformity to standards and specifications, managing subcontractors on site, and participating in safety and quality programs. This role involves supervising site clean-up, resolving installation issues, issuing contractor punch lists, and participating in start-up activities. The engineer will also organize meetings, coordinate documentation for subcontractor equipment testing and handover, and communicate equipment information to commissioning personnel. Key tasks include generating change requests, conducting site coordination meetings, performing pre-job walkthroughs to address demarcation issues, providing commissioning for projects and products, conducting equipment start-up and debugging, verifying hardwired installation, debugging controls hardware and software, recording baseline data, marking up drawing changes, and generating reports. The role also involves providing standby and customer support, and working collaboratively on major projects or independently on smaller ones.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Solid technical training (master craftsman, technician in the field of electrical installation or comparable)
- Knowledge and experience in the field of electrical production / installation
- Experience in the installation of electrical equipment of machines and plants
- Experience in the installation of power distribution systems and heavy-duty stations
- Experience in installation and measurements of networks (e.g. Ethernet, Profinet)
- Experienced in handling valid EN/US guidelines and standards (e.g. EN60204-1, UL508A, NEC, NFPA)
- Extensive travel required (90%)
- 3+ years of supervisory experience required
- Labor and union relations skills
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations (30 hour certified)
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Responsibilities
- Coordination of the electrical installation
- Coordination between project management, engineering and senior site management
- Ensuring conformity to standards and specifications
- Support processing customer bulletins and field orders
- Manage all subcontractors on site
- Participate in and support all safety and quality programs
- Supervise and monitor site clean-up activities
- Resolution of minor installation coordination and engineering problems
- Issue and monitor contractor punch lists for contract completion
- Participate in start-up and extend support as required
- Organize and attend meetings as required and issue minutes
- Coordinate the documentation required for subcontractor equipment test and handover
- Communicate and provide subcontractor equipment information to commissioning personnel
- Generate change requests as needed
- Conduct site coordination meetings (internal and subcontractors)
- Conduct “pre job” walk through with trade’s council to deal with any demarcation issues
- Provide commissioning for projects and products
- Conduct equipment start-up and debug
- Verify hardwired installation
- Debug controls hardware and software
- Record baseline data
- Mark up drawing changes
- Project performance and data collection
- Generate reports as needed
- Provide standby and customer support
- Work as part of a team on major projects or individually on smaller projects
