About The Position

The Lead Engineer is responsible for the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment to meet the mission and objectives of the organization. This position coordinates the evaluation of system failures and appropriate resolutions to support operations on unplanned maintenance. The role ensures that Eversource distribution systems are designed to high-quality standards, providing customers with safe, reliable, competitively priced, and environmentally sound electric service. This position shares accountability with peers in the strategy, development, and design of the organization’s Life Cycle Plan, a comprehensive long-term plan for the distribution system. The Lead Engineer is responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing, and directing the work performed by other Engineers and staff. Distribution Engineering focuses on the strategic development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment to provide reliable service to customers. Technical solutions and modernization initiatives are improving operations and enabling the integration of renewable energy resources. The group also works to prevent, evaluate, and provide appropriate resolutions to system failures. We have an exciting role to join the Distribution Engineering Team. The Lead Engineer supervises represented engineers. The Lead Engineer is responsible for managing needed increases in capacity, developing capital plan projects, improving system reliability, and having a lead role in ERP response.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of eight (8) years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Optimizing the cost and performance of the assets of the transmission/distribution system.
  • Strategic development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment to meet the mission and objectives of the organization.
  • Coordinating the evaluation of system failures and appropriate resolutions to provide support to operations on unplanned maintenance.
  • Sharing accountability with peers in the strategy, development, and design of the organization’s Life Cycle Plan.
  • Supervising, assigning, prioritizing, and directing the work performed by other Engineers.
  • Managing, coaching, developing, and reviewing performance of engineers and other staff.
  • Developing infrastructure strategy, operating philosophy, and technical basis for asset renewal decisions.
  • Working closely with System Planning on process integration (Bulk Power Substations).
  • Responsibility for the cost and performance of certain assets on the system including reliability analysis and trending of system events and monitoring of equipment condition.
  • Development, justification, and authorization of the Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and for the ongoing management.
  • Development and management of a preventive maintenance optimization program.
  • Development of preliminary engineering designs and the details, as necessary.
  • Coordinating and prioritizing Life Cycle Plan work within each service area and across Electric Operations and participating in the work scheduling process.
  • Collaborating with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Providing technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines, and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
  • Accountability for root-cause analysis, development, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Working closely with Investment Planning on project justification and financial rationing.
  • Evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the system.
  • Development of standards and procedures for design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Assuming the role of Project Manager, as required.
  • Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs as part of every employee’s role, including potential Emergency Restoration assignments outside of normal responsibilities, hours, and location.
